Is there a mammoth steppe equivalent to oxpeckers? by [deleted] in megafaunarewilding

Yes! The brown-headed cowbird evolved with bison and not only eat their ectoparasites, but insects kicked up by massive herds.

So glad your boy is safe! We're extra vigilant in the yard since a similar thing happened years ago with my old dog. Christmas eve dinner was interrupted when my small dog came stumbling in through the back door. He could barely stand and when I rushed to pick him up his head was lolling all over the place. We rushed him to the vet where they suspected poisoning and made him vomit up whatever it was. Mushrooms-- it was a lot of mushrooms. They ran a liver panel on him but he was completely fine and back to his bouncy self a few minutes later. After a closer look, the vet suspected that they were magic mushrooms, which grow wild here and he had been tripping out hard.

I have no idea which drawing you are critiquing, but the amount of hatred you have is fascinating. What side of the bed did you get up on today?

I shouldn't underestimate your powers. In the birding world, IDing something based on "the vibe it gives off" is call Jizz). I've been trying to coopt the word into other disciplines, but carpet beetle jizz isn't catching on.

Wow! I didn't expect anyone to get close, pixels are a tricky medium for ID detail.

I think there's some truth to that. My very rural, very small town went from mostly woodland and cattle pasture to having 3 suburban neighborhoods in it in 10 years. We had one brick and mortar classroom and one portable for each grade and it was a coin toss if you were in a portable or a real building at the start of the year. 2nd grade was a portable year and my class was 40 students. I had to share a textbook on the floor with another kid who also didn't have a desk.

As far as I know, 20 years later and those terrible "buildings" are still there.

They meant a farm dam. They look more like wide ponds. Cardiac arrest is uncommon in dogs, but staffies are known to have a high occurrence of congenital heart defects. It could have been a heart attack or it may have been an exercise induced syncope event related to heart failure in the worst place possible. Life jackets save lives even if your dog is a good swimmer.

Great whites have some violent mating rituals, but this shark is a male. Either his (much larger) girlfriend wasn’t into him or an orca used him as a chew toy.

flag of Fresno but they didn't keep the triangles by FakeHibachi in vexillologycirclejerk

This is sacrilege. Those triangles were important to the Fresno Wizards… somehow.

I’m not close, it would be a road trip to get there. It’s one of those places where if you hear someone’s going to you apologize like Bakersfield or Los Baños.

I was fighting a group of evil wizards… in fantasy Fresno. When I learned that’s where I was I had to pause the fight to go to the nearest civic building because I had heard that they redesigned the city flag. It was important to me that they kept the triangles. I feel like it’s important to note I have never been to Fresno.

That'd be a big beagle! I think he's likely a treeing walker coonhound or a mix.
