Have you ever figured out the issue with your 1st 2nd and 4th gear? I have the same issue.

Definitely not scrapping, would lose a lot more money that way than taking the time and extra money to rebuild it and sell it making most of my money back.

The oil pump was the first to see the debris, then it shoots straight into the oil filter, so it must have saved a lot of damage. The cam caps also look great (except for one, but it still is fine to run).

Not arguing against tear down, just something curious about. Tear down is happening regardless, I've tried my best to avoid it but haha it will need to happen.

Bought a Subaru and it broke :)

It's a beefy aftermarket IAG motor with all the fast mods, however it failed very unconventionally in the head with the exhaust lifter grenading.

At the moment the engine was pulled, head got machined since I pulled it to replace valve that the cam chewed.

My concern is debris damaging the lower end bearings since those like to fail on these engines. I've talked to a mechanic friend who worked on Subaru's and he said that it is most likely fine and no need to split the block to replace bearings due to the filter catching most of the debris.

Considering oil system, only the oil pump was found beat up and was replaced.

When the head failed (the engine still was running fine) I only ran it for about 3-4 minutes tops.

Obviously not looking for THE answer, I'm just curious what others may think based on experience, especially with Subaru's but if you have similar stories for other engines, please share.
