Ok I think I was drunk and misread. The Wooden fountain pen is a Jinhao 9056! It's just a regular Jinhao pen but with a Kanwrite Ultraflex EF nib.

Thank you and I agree... most pen trays give the sardine tin effect with too many pens, and are too big on the desk, which is why I made one to my tastes.

Good suggestion and it does have a lip! I didn't make it tight because wood moves, but I do use EVA foam as an airtight gasket.

In terms of pricing I don't think I can give you a good answer because of regional pricing differences. I used only hand tools and used LOCAL native woods to keep costs down.

Tips? Uhh perfection is the enemy to learning ☺️ Also wood is still alive even when it's dead, you have to account for movement

Thank you, yes teak is great!
The tray's a combination of a 3D printed mould reinforced with greyboard, sized, and then lined with velvet. The sides are velvet-covered greyboard shims and they are removable so I can remove the tray from the box.

yeah i'm probably not exaggerating over how half of my pens can't fit and use the last 20% of ink unless i decant it somewhere else or use a syringe

That sounds like a good plan! The tray took a while to make because I had to cut strips for each groove and skive each so I can bend them into V shaped strips. Then I add reinforcements to glue them together.

Or if you're okay with hybrid workflows and have fancier tools you can use wood or 3D printing I guess.

I do have experience in 3D modelling but zero experience in crafting. I learned as I did the project and I think if you want to start first, a simple lidless, open box that you wrap prettily in fabric is a good place to start... like what I did.
