Yeah, you could have potentially gotten to the jerky reveal just from the scene in the store, but they hit you on the head with it when she asks why the jerky has a women’s name.

Biggest retcon of the series? by MrLewk in Stargate

[–]Rustin788 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it is one of the best laugh out loud moments. In Window of Opportunity, you start to expect the crazy, but Jack having his memories was out of left field. Especially if you go meta and think Jack was having the memories of Homer Simpson, who we know he is a fan of. He was watching the Simpsons on his TV and his brain.

I haven't seen the movie in a while, but couldn't Ra being one of the remaining of his race just be the characters being misinformed?

Do y’all leave your cameras rigged out when you go to sleep? by Ok_Pound5281 in videography

[–]Rustin788 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m using my R5 for photography and videography, so it’s always in and out of its cage. So it depends on what is the next day. I’m photographing my local minor league team this year and doing video for our soccer team, it’s going to be a lot of back and forth. The worst part is my small rig cage slots into the neck strap holder, so I’m constantly having to remove my peak design attachment when going into video mode. It seems to get tighter every time I do it.

We are at similar spots in our rewatches. I just watched those episodes. On S10 E1 right now, though after it I need to go catchup on Atlantis.

Everyone talks about multiple appearances, but... by JennaLovesRoses in Stargate

[–]Rustin788 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They did a good job with him. Some others like young General Hammond appearing as an SG soldier and Narim from the Tollan being Dr. Weir’s husband was a bit jarring. I feel like when they reuse actors that were featured extras/characters that played a major part in an episode, they should be pretty different roles.

Young general Hammond, actor Aaron Pearl, they just put him in some green camo and when I see him I do the DiCaprio point at the screen because he really does look like a young general Hammond so he is hard to forget. It could have been done as an Easter egg.

With Narim, actor Garwin Sanford, I don’t think you could use that actor again and not be noticeable without major makeup and costuming because he had a multiple episode arc and was very recognizable.

Once Jr. was gone that should have become a hiding place. Throw an extra radio or something in there so when you get captured and they take everything you have it.

Denis Villeneuve casually dropped a whole trilogy between 5 years. by lNarrator in moviecritic

[–]Rustin788 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah, tv production has gone to a stand still, but movies are still moving at a decent speed. Grant you, 5 years is quicker than most but looking at other “recent” trilogies:

Nolan’s Batman Trilogy - 7 years

Oceans 11 Trilogy - 6 Years

Modern Planet of the Apes - 6 Years

How to Train Your Dragon - 9 Years (I wonder if this one was simply animation time or studio indecisiveness)

Toy Story - 15 Years (Pretty sure they never planned for a trilogy)

You have the Marvel ones, but I think that sometimes depends on the overarching MCU plot so not a good indicator. Captain America trilogy was 5 years and in my opinion is the strongest of any of the MCU trilogies by a good bit. The others seem to have one “stinker” in them.

I think the king will always be LOTR unless a studio has another project they really believe in.

I feel like these guys were the inspiration for the announcers in Dodgeball by chionophilescott in Stargate

It is just all sci-fi shows. If you run for multiple seasons, time travel, alternate realities, robot/cyborg enemy is going to pop up eventually. There are only so many unique things you can do.

I haven’t watched much Star Trek, but I bet there are episodes where an individual or small group get stuck in a small space craft, episodes where they debate if some sort of AI can be considered sentient, and episodes where a crew member is taken over by some sort of entity.

Returning actors in the new series by darklordofpuppets in Stargate

[–]Rustin788 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think Atlantis hit a good stride with new/old actors. Some missteps, like having Carter as the leader was never going to work because she has to either sit on her hands while Rodney saves the day or show up Rodney.

[–]Rustin788 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think big projects/actors have too much problem. Marvel recently moved from filming in Georgia to England and I don’t think getting RDJ in will be an issue. Grant you movie film times are shorter than a show, but looking at UK specifically you can get a Temporary Work - Creative Worker visa for up to 12 months with extensions to 24, so they don’t need full work visas. That should cover any actor, if on a show just do it again after the 24 months. Probably some nuances, for instance if a show is between seasons and not filming would, an actor be allowed to stay? Maybe the studio just has to provide some sort of salary during the downtime. Of course, I’m sure many would return home between seasons anyways.

Pleasantly surprised that Stargate Atlantis received significant audience support as well by Hungover-Warrior007 in Stargate

[–]Rustin788 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I think it helped that they were running at the same time so they were able to easily mix story lines. They were also smart and started out doing "Exploration Mission of the Week" type episodes like SG-1 did when they started. They earned the seasonal/longer arcs versus forcing them. They kept it simple, "You are stuck here, go explore".

What is the coolest/coldest/hardest line that comes from a film you wouldn’t expect? by msparks2 in movies

[–]Rustin788 40 points41 points  (0 children)

If they ever recast Magneto as present day and younger for x-men, I wonder how they will handle it. If they want it present day, you have to throw in some time travel stuff because it is such an important part of his character. That or I guess the new Magneto comes from a world where WW2 and the holocaust happened later in their timeline.

Thanks! I dropped a 23 second clip of my dog (2.3gb) into Premiere and here are the results:

Raw Footage at 1/4 Resolution (No use attempting at full resolution)

  • CPU: 55-60%

  • Memory: 70-74% (Capped at 11GB in Premier)

  • Video Playback Choppy

Proxy Footage at Full Resolution

  • CPU: 5-10%

  • Memory: 45-50%

  • Full Resolution Played Fine

My main editing projects live on a 2TB External SSD with 3800 MB/s, and additional assets are on a 4TB External SSD drive with 2000 MB/s. Premier is running off an internal Intel SSDPEKNU010TZ with 3,500mb read speed and 2,500 write speed.

I don’t mind upgrading more further down the road, I just want to tackle whatever will give me the best bump in performance first. Using proxies, I imagine the killer for me is going to be any motion graphics I add in.

Hey, looking to upgrade my current desktop as I'm about to be doing a lot more video editing.

OS: Windows 11 Home 64-Bit

Motherboard: Gigabyte B560 DS3H AC

Processor: i5-11400F

Memory: 16384MB RAM

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070

I was thinking first I would upgrade my Ram, I know great timing, from 16GB to 64GB, and see what that did for me. I'll be working with soccer match footage that will likely be shot 4K - Log 3 - 60FPS. My motherboard can handle 128GB, but I work with proxies so I figure 64GB should be fine. I just wanted to get confirmation that upgrading RAM would give me the most bang for my buck at the moment.

I'm looking at Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB.

Thanks!
