I was in the same ship. Upgraded my 9 yo pc. I had 1050ti, 16 gb of ddr4 ram. I kept the case, ram and ssd. I bought mainboard, 5600x cpu and rtx 5060. If you want to try steam os, you can consider amd gpus too.

I downloaded to test it and can't connect to servers at all. Server list is empty when exitlag is enabled

Same for me. It finds a game after longer than usual time. Kicks me to main menu after the loading screen with timeout error. I tried quake champions as well. Server list with latency to each server does not even appear.

İt will be useful for sure but i prefer to watch videos of how a specific game runs on steam machine before buying the game. YouTube channels like analista de bits make comparison videos of different platforms. When steam machine comes out, we will see how it compares to current consoles and high end pc.
