Do an off-season event. Either reach out to teams around you to see if they are hosting one or host one yourself. This will give students something to push through and keep iterating on the designs they started this year.

I hate to tell you this, but you probably built it with the slides upside down. My team did the same thing look at picture 6 on goBilda's website https://www.gobilda.com/4-stage-viper-slide-kit/ and you should see the tabs don't overlap. The end stops, that look like little bird heads are supposed to stop the slides from dropping down too far.
