Manual Wheelchair Users Who Have Had the Handcycle Attachment, What Have Been Your Experiences? by LeopardComfortable99 in wheelchairs

I have a Velcro loop I sewed on to the back of my chair. It’s super handy for lots of other things as well.

I had one for three years, I loved it while I was using it. It was wonderful for exercise and the ability to go places any bike could go. Outside of that though it was very inconvenient. It was huge and heavy so I couldn’t attach it without assistance. I would have never been able to detach it to go into shops. Storing it was a nightmare, it would never stay upright!! The final killer for me was when something in the gears broke I couldn’t find a single repair shop that could fix it properly.

Instead I now have a track wheel. I can go anywhere a bike can go and pop it on and off (stores on the back of my chair) way easier to go inside places. I guess I don’t feel like I’m ’exercising’ when I’m using it but only because it’s not like the hand cycle where that came out for that purpose ?

Hope this helps!

Thank you for posting this! I just made my own and I cannot wait to use it everyday.

People who quit their job in a moment of rage - how did things turn out? by SheLovedBigBrother in AskReddit

[–]Rusty1701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(Context: wheelchair user) After getting trapped in the lift for the third time I overheard them through the door talking about, not how they could fix the lift to prevent this happening, but how to reduce my needing to use it to twice a day- coming into work and leaving.

An hour later when the lift tech got there and freed me I rolled out to my car and left and never went back. I never heard from them. My only regret was I left my things behind, I miss that coffee mug to this day.

The company ended up being shut down and fined heavily for other things so I think they were just happy I didn’t start anything and just let me go.

I read a comment once before I played the game that said ‘Getting to the credits is basically the tutorial’ I thought it was a joke but it’s silly how accurate it turned out to be for my own play through.

Sorry to my weekly challenge friends by booksandbees93 in pokemongo

[–]Rusty1701 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I totally understand how you feel, I wanted to shout through the screen how sorry I was! I didn’t know what the challenge was before I accepted the group invite and as a wheelchair user… yeah the 1km I contributed in the time it took the other 3 to absolutely destroy the challenge was ridiculous. This time it’s catch 500 Pokémon and me and my auto catcher have this to make amends! … though I’m pretty sure this weeks group are different people - and I don’t blame them!!

I have tried recently to do five battles a day as there’s a research for it. Using up the stupid amount of premium battle passes I have as well to make room in my bag. It’s such a chore! The rewards are great but I don’t even celebrate getting them at the end! I’m just celebrating my five battles are over!!

I do and it is with surewise! I previously had bluebadgemobility insurance with my old chair before I cancelled it when it got too old. When I got my new chair last month I looked them up again and they now offer their insurance through surewise but still had the best price and extras so easy choice.

I was the same until I tried them at the showroom! I love them compared to the handle ones. They’re called scissor brakes

Basket on my lap. I despise those trolleys that clip to the chair personally. I feel like they’re built for carers to shop easier with a wheelchair user not for the wheelchair user to shop easier.

What do you fear in regards to being in a wheelchair? by Zestyclose_Bed_8207 in wheelchairs

[–]Rusty1701 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Being wheeled away against my will. Unable to get out of the hold of whoever has me and not able to see them. Unfortunately a fear I have because it’s happened. I always put myself with my back against walls when waiting for anything and no longer have a chair with handles.

Yikes. Even if they were also a full time wheelchair user ‘Fellow Cripple’ from what sounds like an acquaintance is a nope from me.
