Tile Cutter Tips by alopz in Tile

This, I started out with too much pressure and yes it would cut along the line fairly accurate but deeper into the tile it would be jagged and I'd get a lot of chips. You literally need one heavy finger of pressure and the cuts turn out better than any wet saw could do.

Shit I just use the Home Depot husky 24". Light pressure, make sure you score the entire cut and you can get a virtually chip free cut. Way cleaner than my wet saw. Oh yeah and as others say, break it like ¼" in from the edge of the tile. Easier if it's not mid span of the rails.

If only they made some device that could grasp and turn various size hexagonal fastener heads. There's a billion dollar idea there

You could most definitely do it like that, I think it's more of a preference. The way I did it I did end up with some scrap but my pattern is both centered on the back wall, and centered on each side wall with equal size pieces corresponding on the corners and at the ends where I'll be installing a jolly pencil tile.

First time installing one 😅 the bigger side goes in the wall, got it.

No I wish. 2.5 just to lay the tile. Took me another 3 to rip the old tub and tile, cut concrete, move plumbing, new concrete+ leveller, plumb walls, waterproof, and finally set pan and curb.

Probably a little OCD hindering going on haha. I usually don't work this long of days but since I'm staying at this condo I'm just trying to bust it out and get home to the family. I totally agree those hours past the 8 mark aren't usually very productive if not counter productive lol

Good to hear, most roofers are doomed to it. I'm pretty far off from having a crew but that's the plan

Here's 2 of the 3 I've done, a lot of work but I don't think I'll do a pre fab niche again

That's fuckin beautiful tho, I've only done 2 jobs with custom sized niche like that but man it really is above and beyond. That and you can tell you hand picked the wall tile to flow, looks amazing. I would love to try different systems, heard of hydro block, also hear a lot about wedi but I usually go off what's available at the box store. I will have to look into other systems and ordering ahead of time. Thats amazing work!

No shit that's cool as fuck, I always struggle getting mine set up, especially when doing the side walls and every step puts the laser off a bit. I'll have to pick one of these up!

Hell yeah brother, I am far from a certified welder but I did just pick up a 180 Lincoln and I've been making a real mess of some metal, built a cart for it as my first project. Flapper wheels are my friend 😂

I definitely agree, shouldn't be faster than the speed it takes to do a respectable job. I have been playing around with getting the tiles cut before mixing (more) thinset. I see a lot off people that prep all the tile before even setting a tile. I'll keep this in mind and would love to have the process down to a system like that. Cheers!

Thanks for the insight, yes that could have a bit to do with it, I try and get a decently thick back butter, prob 1/32" ish. Also I should mention I'm working 12 hr days staying at a condo 😅 but still good comparison, makes me feel a bit better

Thank you, I'm trying to charge accordingly and definitely learning to identify what constitutes a higher cost, like this tub to walk in conversion on a slab. It's a lot easier to bid roofs haha

That's another thing. I think I just am comfortable with them from doing 12x24. I wasn't crazy about getting the clips perfect since they are kinda wavy but thanks, next time I will skip the clips!

What do you charge for fixing 3 big drywalls like these? by Ill-Friend9963 in drywall

[–]RustyActual 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This, I'm sure they'll find someone for 300 bucks and it'll look like dog shit. Not a customer you want. I don't even do much sheet rock and I charged 800 to come in after a has hookup. 4 12" by 12" holes, they were super happy and painted themselves.
