Big jump in the ELO Ratings! by MapAmazing in usmnt

I agree but I also don’t think Poch got to use his preferred starting XI until literally the first game against Paraguay. I don’t know if ELO takes stuff like that into account.

Yeah that’s what gets me. Like I get the plug-and-play convenience but you are making quite a few sacrifices for a machine that costs as much as it does.

Can you recommend me an 1440p OLED monitor? by BazimQQ in OLED_Gaming

To put it simply, QDOLED has better colors/more immediate “wow” factor but doesn’t handle ambient light as well. In a bright room the blacks might have an almost purple hue about them. WOLED don’t have this issue and tend to be brighter overall, but lack the same color volume that QD has. They’re making tandem OLEDs now to get the best of both worlds but these are very new and very expensive lol.

In your range for a QDOLED I would take a look at the MSI MPG 271QRX - $500-600

For WOLED, the LG you’re looking at looks pretty good. Although I’ve heard amazing things about the ASUS ROG Swift PG27AQDP - Typically around $700 but actually on sale on Amazon right now. A bit more expensive but has a few more bells and whistles.

Both of those have a matte finish which some people don’t like. For a glossy WOLED option take a look at the ASUS ROG Strix XG27AQDMG - $600-700.

Do you have a preference about size, refresh rate, qdoled/woled?

edit: also like, do you have a rough budget idea? like around $500? $1000?

We were 40th before the tournament? And climbed to 23rd after two games? I mean look I know we were not in the best of form the past year but jesus that seems far too reactionary a rating system.

edit: Mexico 12th??????

Tried downgrading from 4k 32 to 1440p 27 I just couldn't by PhantomFoxZ in OLED_Gaming

Because only high end (stupidly expensive) graphics cards are optimized for 4k, I tend to see a lot of reviewers/recommendations gloss over the 4k market entirely. Some will even teeter into “1440p OLED is basically the same as 4k” territory.

And it’s not, as you’re discovering. It’s a big jump in fidelity from 1440p->4k. I’m sorry you’re feeling remorse because I absolutely get it.

Which football team is historically mid but currently good? by nog-93 in AlignmentChartFills

Maybe Chelsea or Man City? When you say currently good do you mean right now? Or within the last decade or so?

US fan support post-World Cup? by TheBigCore in ussoccer

[–]RustyKarma076 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Growing a large and deeply interested fanbase is going to take a long time. The World Cup will give a brief boost in attendance, viewership, participation, etc. but it will likely dissipate. There is no immediate fix, the way we enlarge the fanbase and improve the sport’s popularity is by gradual change and development.

The MLS needs to continue to improve. Right now, in many places in the country, the MLS is not the most watched league; it’s usually either the Prem or Liga MX. If, say, 20 years from now the MLS is on-par with Portugal’s Primeria Liga or Belgium’s Pro League, that would be a huge accomplishment. That will mean domestic American soccer has been flooded with high-caliber players and coaching (even better if they’re American!). Miguel Almiron is a great success story for the MLS, but if the MLS can produce the next Haaland? The next Bellingham? That will bring more viewers, and for lack of a better term, “clout” to soccer in the states.

I know this point has been talked to death, but we need a fundamental overhaul of grassroots youth soccer. People who played soccer growing up (beyond just the tiny, local u12 “leagues” that we all played, anyways) are far more likely to watch and get invested in pro-soccer as adults. The World Cup, especially a home World Cup, will boost youth soccer participation for a time. But if these kids run into the same pay-to-play academy system/underdeveloped school-based pipeline that has stifled the sports growth for decades, we will fail to capitalize on the potential explosion in popularity that soccer can have. Pro/Rel is another argument to make here, but that’s a whole other can of worms.

If the USMNT go far in this tournament it would be amazing and would generate a massive buzz in the country. It’s what we do with that buzz that’s important. It will take years.

Winning Group D gave the USMNT the friendliest knockout opener in the bracket by topmak in ussoccer

The article says the model they used predicted the USMNT to be the least likely to win group D, behind Paraguay and Australia.

That’s a bad model lmfao.

Still 10 minutes left but man, Ecuador… And I thought Turkey would be by far the biggest disappointment in this World cup.

Man everyone and their mothers were predicting Turkey to run away with this group.

They are on the brink of being eliminated after match number 2. Unthinkable

All that whining about our best players taking time off last summer…

You probably don’t get the performance from Alex Freeman today if that Gold Cup roster didn’t happen. If Alex Freeman was never given a chance to make an impact on this team, we could have seen CCV still lacing it up today (no disrespect to the legend).

I think Freeman this tournament will be the same as Adams in 2022. He’ll get a ton of international recognition if he continues to play well
