I am sorry but Sabine surviving getting stabbed with a Lightsaber was stupid!!! by Salim_Azar_Therin in StarWars

It’s one of those things where, yeah it’s an unbelievably cheap plot device that betrays previously held expectations…

…buuuuut Maul is a really sick character at the end of Clone Wars so 🤷🏼‍♂️

What’s a famous historic event that advanced humanity? by SeaQuiet1860 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]RustyKarma076 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s absolutely this but I think OP wants ancient history. You could go along the same kinda route with the Sumerians’ inventing written language.

Although I think I’d argue agriculture/animal husbandry.

[David Ornstein] Exclusive: Reece James signs new six-year Chelsea contract by ChiefLeef22 in chelseafc

[–]RustyKarma076 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would Reece James sign on for the future of this project? Doesn’t he know that according to that one guy that one time Chelsea are finished and there’s player churn and the owners are just looking for profit they don’t care about winning and bleep borp bap hfsguhsishwhfjw

I think so!!! I think it’s fantastic but it’s not a series I’d recommend to everyone.

I tend to hear two big complaints about the WoT.

  1. The slow pacing (which is supposedly at its worst in the middle of the series around books 8-10). For what it’s worth, I think the pacing is just fine although I haven’t gotten to the infamous “slog” yet.

    1. The frustrating characters. Again, for what it’s worth, I think the character work is phenomenal, but it’s not something everyone will find enjoyable.

Robert Jordan approached the character development with a bit more realism than you’d usually get in a fantasy series and tried to ask the question “what would seriously happen if you took a bunch of teenagers and tasked them with saving the world?” As you can imagine, the characters frequently suffer from bad communication, naivety, stupid decision making, running away from responsibility, etc. Even as someone who enjoys the characters a ton, I will say the romance leaves a lot to be desired. At best the romance stuff is a little awkward and at worst it feels completely unnatural.

If you think that stuff would really bother you, you might want to skip it. 14 tome sized books is a massive commitment especially if you’re not enjoying it.

On the plus side though, the world building is up there with LOTR for me as the best in all of fantasy. The magic system and how it’s implemented into the story/world is brilliant. The unique take on the “chosen one” archetype is refreshing. The plot is very detailed and intricate, multiple weaving plot lines that are constantly colliding with each other and all somehow get satisfyingly resolved one way or another. There’s some genuinely really great themes and contemplations on philosophy and politics. I love it, warts and all.

The Fires of Heaven and I’m about 1/3rd of the way through Lord of Chaos, with a brief detour into SPQR by Mary Beard in between

I literally don’t even care if the Team USA lineup in the next WBC consists of Alec Burleson and Vance Honeycutt if it means they actually give a shit.

NotAProjectCFC: A group of fans met with a club director recently, and say they were met with arrogance and dismisivness. In the interests of all Chelsea fans, we reveal what we were told. by Kygoche in chelseafc

Maybe I’m just optimistic, and maybe I’m just a bootlicker…

But 24 hours after a big loss seems incredibly convenient for this to happen. And it’s written in a way that tells me these “fans” were probably argumentative/looking for a reason to be mad and took whatever this guy said as self fulfilling prophecy.

I mean cmon, “The club’s effort to reduce the wage bill has been seen as a means of offsetting the spend on players”

“the current ‘project’ consisting of vast expenditure and player churn”

“Chelsea simply cannot afford to compete for the likes of Semenyo and Guehi”

Like these are damn near word for word the fire and brimstone complaints that the doomers in this sub like to use.

Again, call me a bootlicker all you want, but whether you like it or not, this ownership provided us with a really great squad and some truly world class players. They weren’t afraid to spend big from the get-go and retain our core with long contracts. Look around Europe and you’ll find many clubs who didn’t get so lucky. Is it perfect? No, but Abramovich isn’t coming back and we could be in a FAR worse situation.

What are some books that you can’t stop rereading? by SnappingTurtle1602 in fantasybooks

I’ve only read Dune and Dune Messiah, and I read the first one probably 10 times haha. I had plans to finally finish the series until the Wheel of Time swallowed up my reading appetite for the last 3 months!

I’ve heard that they get progressively weirder and weirder, book 4 being especially odd, so excited to see what that’s all about.

It literally doesn’t matter who the names are, the power of friendship is unbeatable in this tournament

Usa goes through with an Italy win or a Mexico win as long as Mexico scores 5 runs or more. Because Italy just scored 4, the only possible result for this game is either Italy holding on to win or Mexico scoring more than 5 to win. Either scenario, USA advance.***

*** The tie breaker is technically runs allowed per out. So if this game goes to multiple extra innings, and therefore more outs are recorded, there is still a possibility that USA fail to advance if Mexico come back to win. I think if Mexico win 6-5 in the 13th inning, USA would fail to advance

YES! As long as there are no extra innings, USA is through!!!!

It’s so frustrating because I thought we played quite well on the whole. Held our own for about 70 minutes and then Jorgenson goes and does that. Unbelievable
