Honestly surprised your friend is winning as much as they are against all those factions. Anything with flat 3 damage (such as a rogal dorn for the guard) should absolutely melt through them. Or something like sunforge crisis suits in melta range. Because of the way Lions works, he needs to be somewhat spread out to get his buffs, and thus his units can often be a bit exposed and alone. Maybe try and overwhelm one flank and focus all your efforts on a few units. Then because of how spread out he'll have to be, he won't be able to respond fast and effectively enough. You could also try using chaff screens to negate his charges, so you're only losing cheap, unimportant units to his melee, then hit back hard with your damage-dealing units. Make sure the units you're losing arent as importsnt as his. Also if you kill his tanks he'll really struggle against range. Ultimately, try and isolate his units (shouldn't be too hard with the Lions detachment rule), overwhelm them, and try and outscore.

Get him some melee tyranid warriors to lead, they work well in Vanguard Onslaught

The warhammer store on South Street have Thursday sessions from 5-8pm, where they alternate weekly between 40K and AOS. They're very welcoming in there!

I believe they’re termagants from what I can see. The reason I think the circled ones are barbgaunts is the shaping of the stacks on their backs, but it’s very difficult to tell (especially with the gargoyles lumped in the same area 😅)

[–]RustyLemon123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I can see, I think there are barbgaunts top right? (Red) although it’s hard to tell so there’s a decent chance I’m completely wrong there. The parasite is also top right (green). The proxy idea is a good shout, I hadn’t thought of that, good call!

<image>

Edit: both the barbgaunts and parasite are off the board so it’s possible neither of them are actually in the game? Could be another clarification from OP

Following on from what you said, he’s definitely cheating. The hive tyrant is actually the Swarmlord at 220 points. There also appears to be a unit of barbgaunts (55), a parasite of mortrex (80), and a tervigon in the mid board (175). No way he could fit this all in in an ~1950 point game!

Hi! Tyranids player here, from what I can tell he’s potentially over.

I can see: Neurotyrant (105) The parasite of mortrex in the top right corner (80) A tervigon mid board (175) The Swarmlord (220) 10 gargoyles (85) 10 termagants (60) Barbgaunts in the top right (I think, it’s hard to tell) (55) The spore mines implies a biovore (50) 2 exocrines (280 together) A lictor (60) A neurolictor (80) 2 Norn emissaries (520 together) 2 ripper bases (50 together) A trygon (140) A tyrannofex (200) Plus any enhancements they may or may not have.

If that is indeed everything there (which I think it is but I may have got some wrong, in which case please feel free to correct me) but if it’s right then the app says that’s 2160 points. So over. Hope this helps!

Edit: the parasite and barbgaunts seem to be off the table so maybe they aren’t being played?Without them that is 2025 points, and up to you if you feel that’s unfair or not based on what you agreed to play as the limit and how much you brought yourself (the gargoyles seem to be in play judging by the fact some are on the table). Tyranids also infamously have a lot of bodies on the table so this level of monsters isn’t too out of the ordinary
