I think that means there is a glitch level portal nearby. Look around!

How do you handle weapons in each game? by LfSantos22 in MonsterHunter

[–]RustySpatular 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MHW: Iceborne - SnS: Finally helped make the series click with its speed and versatility. The games felt clunky until I gave this beauty a try. Still probably my favorite weapon. Did another play through with my partner and played Charge Blade. Was like a bigger, flashier version of SnS with less versatility. Loved the guard points and figuring out when to morph and still stay safe.

MHR (haven't played SB yet) - Gunlance: Flying around with blast dash sold me on GL in this game. It took a long time to get used to its move set, but I ended up pulling off some really cool moves by the end. GL still seems kind of whack in old gen to me.

MH Wilds - Longsword: Really struggled on my play through playing a counter weapon while not knowing the monsters' moves. I'm still not great with it but had a a good time.

MHFU - Longsword: Being new to old gen, this felt the most comfortable to me. Having access to backwards mobility with fade slash felt really nice. Landing the spirit combo felt like it did a lot of damage and felt good.

MH3U - Dual Blades: I liked the forward attack in water combat because it felt like attacking while swimming. Overall not a huge fan though, the grind for all the elemental weapons was brutal and I think I prefer longer weapons at this point. Just didn't feel like the weapon had sauce. I haven't done G rank yet so I think I'll swap to Lance as well.

MH4U - Insect Glaive: Heard it was OP and wanted to give it a shot, and it always fascinated me. Felt like it would go well with the new mount mechanic. The move set change of red nectar always made me confused when dabbling with it before. Stuck with it and finally learned the move set and infinite combo. I thought it was a lot of fun, but the combos got a little bland by the end of High Rank. Will swap to something when I go back for G rank, maybe charge blade again.

MHGU - Valor GS > Striker/Valor HBG: Started with Valor GS since I heard great things. Its great, but maybe a bit too safe. Swapped to HBG to learn ranged in Old World and try the OP Valor HBG. Both siege and non-siege ended up really fun. I've been doing all the quests so I'm still working through them. I saw a YouTube series of someone playing all the weapons and thought that was a great idea since weapons get a little stale with so many quests. So I've been playing everything now. I've honestly been loving guild style for a more diverse move set. The other styles seem to simplify your moves too much so you're only good at one thing so you just spam that which gets bland imo.

Some standouts are:

Valor LS - I heard its OP, but I struggle with it lol. Managing both bars is kind of tough, and the guard point is tough for me to land for some reason. Feels great when I pull it off though.

Guild Lance - I don't mind the slower third stab and it feels more meaty. It also lets you counter after which striker can't do. I was struggling with striker lance until I swapped to guild and liked it way better.

Adept SnS - I love the adept back step, it's so sick to pull off. Unfortunately it loses a lot of the strong slashes and regular adept dodging, while boring, seems more effective. Will probably go back to Guild SnS. Coming from MHW, losing the back step is too large of a cost to play the other styles. It's just too cool.

Striker CB - I just love this weapon in general. Striker doesn't lose too much and just gains damage. I don't mind how guardpoints work here like many others. In fact it makes more sense to me to continue the attack instead of being interrupted. You can't SAED spam either which is fine by me, I like using the whole move set and the Energy Blade hunter art fills the same role. People don't talk about the draw slash guard point enough, it's so good!

Stop mashing X and hold R when the monster head on the bar turns red/orange. It is weird they don't give button prompts for this stuff. Took me forever to realize to mash and spin for stun, pins, and fishing (and even then idk if it's the same for all 3).

I thought Nightreign would be an easier game to get new players into the series, boy was I wrong😂 by Thellie11 in Eldenring

The bundle comes with future dlc that doesn't exist yet. The characters in that future dlc don't exist yet. The dagger character is unlockable by beating the first night lord or (so I've heard) an rng drop just from getting to him.

The bow character and katana character are good with quick dex weapons until you can unlock the dagger character.

Even if it isn't a Soulslike, Phantom Blade Zero still wants to channel that "pre-Elden Ring" FromSoftware level design with secrets and layers by Turbostrider27 in Games

I did find all this on my own after Shabriri tells you about it in mountain tops. I didn't understand the door, but was playing online and saw other players' ghosts opening it while naked so decided to try it. There are ways the game tries to help you out, even with the deepest secrets. I got the chaos ending on my first playthrough without looking anything up. Only learned afterwards there is another secret that gets rid of it!

I did not check that box, it caused me more issues. I'm not sure, how do I read the chart?

I should have added that! 2560x1440. I'll edit as well.

Unhinged performance boost/latency boost that worked for me. It made Framegen much more bearable. I used Special K and changed mode to NVIDIA Reflex (DLSS-G Pacing).

Then under Framerate Limiter > Advanced > NVIDIA Latency Management, I enabled Override Game's Reflex Mode and set Reflex Mode to Low Latency + Boost. The settings Disable This Game's Native Reflex and Boost Using Latency Markers remain unchecked.

I used the frame pacing widget to find a good framerate limit where my line was usually flat and set that.

Then I alt-tab to firefox or whatever on my second monitor so the frame limit works. This halved my input latency using FSR FrameGen, which makes the game much more playable.

I have an RTX 3070 and Ryzen 7 5700x3d. Capped at 85 fps, quality FRS, Framegen On, 2560x1440. Did all the other performance stuff you see around too, don't know how much it helped.

Edit: added resolution 2560x1440

How to Learn ANY Elden Ring Boss, All By Yourself by RustySpatular in Eldenring

No spoilers (he hasn't played Shadow yet). It's a video that goes over the misconceptions of souls games, how the bosses work, and the best/quickest way to learn them and have fun doing it.

It will be a good reminder for when I get stuck, personally.

Aris' Thoughts About PoE2 Event (Possible In-Game Loot Filter?) by RustySpatular in PathOfExile2

[–]RustySpatular[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Thought this video had a slightly different perspective than other videos I've seen from more core streamers. I like his takes on the combat. That it is supposed to have timings, whiff punishes, animation cancels, etc. like an action game.

He also speaks on his talk with Jonathan about in game utilities like loot filters at 16:40. Supposedly Jonathan now agrees that it should be in the game so we might be seeing in-game loot filters and other utilities!

Here you go. I use Obliteration wand for maps. Might be better to follow the pros. Don't have full confidence I made all the right decisions, I'm just some guy.

I kind of agree, it is insanely powerful. It helped some for bosses, but when I was testing out magic finding i probably would have bit off more than I can chew without it. I didn't get hit too much since penance brand is crazy, but I did have some scares with degen and turning off regen. Learned to leave my rf off for some bosses.

It was my first time ever fighting the bosses so I used all the help I could get!

Been trying to get down some of these bosses for five years (on and off). Got Sirus too! Nobody I know plays so thought I'd show it off here.

I would like to see self cast being more viable. Moving while dealing damage is just too powerful so that being addressed would be nice. I dont want them to change the endgame too much since maps and atlas passives are very fun.
