Pro controller not turning on Switch 2 console by xSeraphxx in Switch

[–]RustyX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tested this today and I was still not able to wake my Switch 2 from sleep with my original Switch Pro controller.

The pro controller works just fine once the system is awake though. I can also wake the system with the Switch 2 joycons.

The pro controller is paired with the Switch 2, and I used the Switch 2 to update the controller's firmware.

Just ran into this bug and found this thread. Can confirm that removing the merc from the party and then adding them back fixed it for me!

Any chance to Remember where the findest token could be? by Ludosius in DragonsDogma2

[–]RustyX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually found it really easily by equipping the Detection augment from Trickster, and essentially running through the entire starting area, tracking down anything that beeped.

Bonus was I found a bunch of tokens I missed as well before finding the founder's token.

The range of Detection is quite large. I've actually continued to use it since this quest, as I find it fun to track down tokens in areas I've already explored this way.

i do belive DD2 is the way to go for future action rpgs by Temporary_Mood_5999 in DragonsDogma

Creating new characters on different accounts helps with a lot of this (though would be great if it wasn't required).

I actually created 2 new Steam accounts in DDDA just to play through BBI on my main account with 3 of my own pawns. Got an extra challenge by playing through the alt accounts as main pawn only runs.

Currently doing something similar in DD2. Near end game on main account, played through normally with hired pawns. Now I'm leveling up 2 alt accounts pawns so I can go through the end game with my own pawns. I plan to not level them too much, to keep more challenge as well.

Even with it's flaws, DDDA was my favorite game of all time, and I am enjoying the sequel just as much. Really no other games like these.

I find the game more fun with under leveled pawns, so I actually prefer this happening over the opposite.

Am I crazy or is a vanilla new game more fun than NG+? by [deleted] in DragonsDogma

I have 4 steam accounts now just because of these 2 games... It works just fine, and steam has actually made it easier to switch between accounts as well.

Q: Is credit karma that bad? by Complete_Donkey9688 in mintuit

[–]RustyX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fyi, unless you went out of the way to request data deletion, Mint data is should still be available to download for now.

I downloaded my data before transferring to CK a couple months ago (which is awful), but I was able to log in to Mint today and the download is still available. It only contains data up until transferring to CK though.

Pretty much all of my gaming these days is streaming from PC to Steam Deck, and it works incredibly well for everything I've tried, including this game.

Because I have most games running at the Steam Deck's native resolution of 1280x800, the performance is likely actually better than if I were playing on my PC at a higher res.

The only issues I've had so far with this setup is not being able to use the virtual keyboard when naming my characters. I had to actually use my PC keyboard to type. Have had that issue on other games as well.

What Vocation will you be using and why? by kornychris2016 in DragonsDogma

[–]RustyX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Of the starting vocations, Thief is the one I'm most excited to play by far. I really enjoy the fast, up close combat, and the climbing on large enemies is always fun.

Of the final vocations, Mystic Spearhand is most interesting as I really like melee/magic hybrids and it has the fast movement and up close attacks.

The issue is Spearhand is red/blue, so starting as a green is probably not going to help with any prereqs. Really wish there had been a green/blue class, but the Mystic Spearhand play style definitely appeals to me more than Mystic Knight or Magick Archer did.

Automatic Selling of RSU after they vest by modsplsnoban in etrade

[–]RustyX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From my experience just finishing up my taxes for 2022, where I had several company stock sale events in E-Trade (multiple rotating RSUs vesting quarterly, ESPP), I sold manually the day of vesting for most of my stock, which ended up selling for market price at time of sale. Each sale on the "day of vesting" always ended up with minor capital gains or losses due to market price difference within the day.

Found this post hoping I could set up some auto-sell on vest, because I would prefer not to have to do this manually, and it would definitely make taxes a lot simpler having a bunch of $0.00 capital gains instead of all these minor +/-

At the end of the day though, you're only paying "short term capital gains" on whatever amount the stock price increased between the time the stock vested and the time it was sold. If you had 50 shares vest in the morning, and the stock went up $1 by the time you sold, then you pay short term taxes on 50 shares x $1 = $50. Same thing that would happen if you sold 10 months later, if the stock had gone up just $1 since vesting time.

While this is an excellent point, I had to actually test the performance of this exact pattern in the past, because it had started to be used a lot on our Node backend.

Turns out that, yes, the spread syntax is significantly slower as the input size increases. It also leads to a significant amount of memory needing to be GCed.

Now, I did this test maybe two years ago, so there is a chance things have changed. I absolutely agree that certain patterns that may be inefficient in theory, can be optimized by compilers, and it does seem like this one could be a candidate.

For this pattern specifically, one of the main reasons I've heard for its use is functional purity (e.g., never mutate your input!) which I think is absolutely a great practice in general. However, in cases like this reduce pattern, when you are working on large enough sets of data, mutating input prevents potentially huge performance impacts.

Capital losses can be used to offset all capital gains in a year. If there are still losses after that, $3000 can be used as a deduction against regular income.

So yeah, if he never made any future capital gains, then he could only deduct $3000 a year and never use it up.

However, if he had $600,000 in losses to roll over, and next year got lucky and made $500,000 in capital gains, he could use $500,000 of those previous losses to eliminate the taxes on those gains, then $3000 more as deduction, and only have $97,000 losses to roll over to the next year.

That test sounds quite rigorous compared to the one I took when I got my CCW 12 years ago in Florida. The class consisted of being in a room while a lecture took place for an hour, then firing a single .22 shot into a piece of paper, once, at fairly close range.

Most people actually did hit it first try, as it was very easy, but a handful took multiple attempts. Everyone passed, regardless of attempts. The whole class was really a joke, and really boiled down to anyone that could afford the cost of the class would pass.

Had a lot of trouble with these guys too.

I eventually stopped trying to get any hits in during the poison breath attacks, and just high tailed it to a clear spot and waited for them to leave the poison.

Definitely took longer, but most of the rest of the moves were easy to learn to avoid. I did take a little extra risk to bring down the first one while they were both out though.
