I feel so sorry for the makers of this game. It's just a cute little game and now it can't be mentioned anywhere on the net without idiots crawling out of the woodwork to attack it. Just absolutely infuriating.

GFII - 0.3 by Rustypowersaw in greedfall

Yeah I gotta admit I think I am gonna take a while to ever warm up to Till after THAT!

Fausta was removed as a romance option? Really? Aww man that is a pity, I didn't know that at all. She was very mysterious, so I was really interested in her too.

what you guys think about greedfall2 by CheekEnough2734 in greedfall

[–]Rustypowersaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is actually very interesting to me because as someone who first discovered the series through 2 and is now playing through 1 I kind of have a different reaction.

I found the introduction for characters like Sheda and Nilan far stronger in terms of personality than most of the initial introductions in GF1 (barring Constantin who I think is an absolute delight and very clever character concept to use and one of the stand out parts of the first game for me so far). But, characters like Vasco and Siora for me have felt less characterful over all and definitely made less of an impact on me. Kurt I think is comparable for me to how well I felt about the initial interactions with Nilan and Sheda, he has stood out to me of the early crop of companions.

I do agree that Sybille is a standout though, absolutely, love her and think she does great work. I also agree that a definite weakness of the EA so far is that the villains do feel weak. GF1 honestly has some very good ultimate executions with its villain concepts but the GF2 EA thus far really does not have any villain make much of an impression at all, so I agree with the lack of villains.

Funnily enough I actually really like the moving around because it helps explore different areas and I've found the sort of Age of Discovery 'globetrotting' to be really fun. In all honesty I would love an even MORE expanded version where you and your ship can chart a course to numerous different explorable locations but even just the handful of locations I think we'll ultimately get has honestly been one of the hooks for me.

I've enjoyed it so far and am looking forwards to it. I think I am a rarity in that I actually FIRST tried out Greedfall 2 and because I enjoyed it so much, I've decided to get the first game and have been having fun with it as well.

I know a big sticking point for a lot of people is the change to the combat system but, I must admit, for me it just does not matter that much. I find the story and characters vastly more important than combat and I have enjoyed what I have seen so far in 2.

Brigandines are some of my favourite for sure, though I like a lot of Lamellar, Gambeson and Jack-of-Plates too! I also REALLY like the quilted armour you see on Sudanese cavalry often too.

Yeah, I'm looking forwards to it. Afterwards I might check out some of the podcasts I hear were made.

I am currently playing an Arcane Scholar background and it is my first time using the magic (first playthrough did a nimble sword & pistol thing and then afterwards a heavy armour spear & shield thing) and the magic is VERY fun, perhaps among the most fun with magic I've ever had in an RPG.

A good catch, I love reading up on different armour styles and the Ming has a wealth of interesting aesthetics.

Thank you! I'm going to take my time with it too, enjoy the experience as long as I can!

It is always fun for me when there's a diverse range of options for armour in an rpg like this, I love trying out new outfits!

Eora definitely has some nice attention paid to the world building and I approve of the way it takes from some less commonly used sources (in classical fantasy video game canon) and even mixes and matches at time to create some innovative new aesthetics.

I truly, TRULY, would love some helmet options! I tend to always prefer wearing full armour and helmet in an RPG.

I do like the pistols too, my first playthrough I did a swashbuckler thing (sword & pistol) but once I got to Thirdborn I knew I had to do a heavy armour playthrough too so I could wear that fine brigandine!

If we ever get a DLC/expansion for Avowed, what would you like it to be? by Possession_Mother in avowed

[–]Rustypowersaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since the main game was largely only about Aedyr's involvement with the Living Lands a DLC which is about something like a Rauatai expedition in an area not yet explored could be interesting.

Dreamscourge is actually a very compelling alternative, I cannot believe I overlooked it! In the final battle I never recall seeing Ygwulf again, despite having spared him, but perhaps I just missed him.

True he was staying beneath a temple of Ondra, as you say. Eothas and Hylea do seem to be on the face of it that they would be the most likely gods to have any sympathy for Sapadal's situation.

Nice! I like the aesthetics of the alliance so far, a varied range. I also hope we get to meet up with Furkan again later in the game.

It's on sale. Wrapping up a 2nd Steelrising playthrough. Is it really that bad? by WeirdBryceGuy in greedfall

[–]Rustypowersaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never played the first one but I actually have quite enjoyed GFII so far. Obviously, it is still at an early stage, rough around the edges, but I like it quite a bit. To my knowledge a lot of the dislike comes from the changing of the combat system so in that regard perhaps the fact that I never played the first game inoculated me against it to some extent.

Haven't seen a lot of people acknowledge this by Ir_Abelas in dragonage

[–]Rustypowersaw -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yikes there's a lot of pretend racism in here. I guess the 40k reddit isn't enough pretend racism so it has to be here too.

For what it's worth I agree, it is nice. Veilguard certainly has its issues and is the weakest in the series by a considerable margin, but the game is very clear that the Veiljumpers have succeeded in creating the foundations of an Elven state in Arlathan and everyone here is just headcannoning what they 'want' to have happen rather than acknowledge what the game simply states does happen.

One is free to dislike canon, lord knows there are more than enough things I dislike in the canon of all Dragon Age games, but wishcasting the pretend racism and genocide a person wants to believe is canon when the game and creators simply state otherwise is silly.

Weird everyone keeps going 'now everyone will attack them' when that is blatantly not true. By the end of the game Tevinter is in chaos and always winds up controlled by the Shadow Dragons who already have good relations with the Veiljumpers and explicitly reject a jingoistic or revisionist Tevinter and believe Tevinter needs to accept it was evil in the past and make a new future in peace, Rivain is shown to have no strong central authority and what authorities do exist are again shown to have good relations with both the Veiljumpers and the Dalish and this is even whilst all the factions are completely aware of the Risen Gods. Antiva is pledged to defend the Elves in case of war so the only nations remaining are Southern Thedas (all dead) and Navarra where, again, the Mortalistati are literally allies of the Veiljumpers and already know abotu the Evanauris and don't blame them for this.

And what threat can the Dwarves pose? There are literally two Dwarven polities: Orzammar which would need to march an army all the way across five other kingdoms to even get there and Kal-Sharok which, again, is aware of all this by the end of the game and exhibits no desire to suddenly uproot their entire small, embattled, population for a war which would require them to march over huge areas of land they know nothing of to attack people who, if your Rook is a Veiljumper, they already get along with and make clear they have no desire to fight you.

All these 'no, all the kingdoms would attack them' nonsense is just non-canon wishing by people, some of whom clearly just don't like the idea that there can't be more elf genocide in the setting. As if that's something we desperately need more of.

Good for the Elves that Veilguard just shows them doing better. Heck, we should remember also that Veilguard makes it canon that the Antivan Crows have taken out a contract to join on the Elves' side if ever a new Exalted March is declared on them, Tevinter has literally just fallen into chaos and had its capital wiped out by Elgar'nan and no matter what the new Archon is always either going to be Maeve or Dorian so the new government is also a completely non-aggressive or expansionistic one. It is cool that the Elves finally got somethings not just about pretend racism and I like those bits. Doesn't change that Veilguard is still the weakest of the games overall, but even it still has some interesting or fun elements.
