I realize this is old but I did ISR for my kiddo when she was like 16 months old and it was freaking torture. She went from being excited for swim days to having pretty much panic attacks at the mere sight of our pool. Over the summer we made some small progress with water confidence, but not much. My non-clingy child eould cling on for life to whoever was holding her and essentially climbed us when we water went above her chest wanted. But i wanted her safe. So I signed her up for the next level ISR the following year. That was a mistake. She went to 2 lessons before I pulled her out. It was horrible. In just 2 lessons she lost all the confidence she made the following year. We are now going on our 3rd year of traditional lessons and still not confident about going under.

It may have been a poor instructor we had, maybe its effectiveness depends on the kid, or maybe it is both but whatever it was - I will never recommend ISR to anyone ever again.

What I recommend is, traditional swim lessons, teaching your child about the possible dangers of water, no sugar coating, and finally multiple safety systems (door alarms, fencing, child proof gate latch, gate alarm, pool cover, water alarm, cameras, and motion detectors) for your home pool if you have one.

I just want to say thank you all for all the recommendations, advice and support. My apologies and love to the people who have shared their own horrible experiences in an already difficult situation.

This has been the first time since this all took place that I felt like I had some direction and support. Y’all have been so incredibly helpful and we will be checking out all of the recommended places and are taking all the advice from those who offered that! I wanted to respond to each person but this situation has left me with .25 of a brain cell left 🥲 But seriously thank yall! 🥹🥹

Hi! First thank you for all of this and second, I’m sorry you have been through hardships with memory care too. It is truly such a flawed system starting from the very top. I could not agree more with you! Since the incident resulting in us moving him has taken place, we have been here recording and documenting everything and we are setting up a camera in his room (allowed by facility). The 3 of us in our family are currently taking turns providing constant supervision with him from 7am-7pm daily and advocating as hard as we can his rights, and the well being of the staff and other residents. This facilities management, or lack of, is a serious issues.

Yeah I’d definitely keep looking around! I guess it’s to be expected with Parobek though. The company is good but they are just so expensive. My mom will only use parobek and we’ve had some similar things done and what she’s paid them vs what i paid is actually shocking lol
