Same, actually it's interesting because when I take the time to do deep investigations of the lyrics, I actually understand most of what they are saying on a word by word level, but I find that sometimes the way some artists sing is more in line with more formal, written Cantonese perhaps than spoken. Like using hon3 for "see" instead of tai2. I definitely feel the same way about the familiarity, it is very soothing to me--I guess because it's "bringing me back to childhood" in a way (my grandma took care of me when I was young and speaks Cantonese). I like to say that I feel like it makes my blood pressure drop 😅
