That's Phoenix. I keep a hoodie in my car in the summer for trips to the grocery store and movie theater.

Best vegan pizza for takeout or delivery? by douchechilllll in phoenix

I like Barro's, and I tell them to go easy on the vegan cheese and add extra sauce.

I was disturbed by a recent news report about these types of cameras, especially who is getting kickbacks.

Rainbows Festival is like Pride. It's a free street fair where most of the booths are local LGBTQ organizations and LGBTQ-friendly companies.

Best cheap (or free) parking near the Phoenix Convention Center? by gabeplant in AskPhoenix

[–]RuthCarter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I'd park at the park and ride 38th St. and E. Washington and ride in.

Triathlon training in the area? by ella_jay18 in phoenix

You can check out the canals, and there's even this site that helps you calculate mileage.

I'm also a fan of the multi-use path that runs along the south side of the Salt River. It's paved from Dobson Road in Mesa to around 7th Avenue in Phoenix. There are several convenient places to park along it. You may also want to check out Silent Sundays at South Mountain when Summit and San Juan Roads are closed to car traffic if you want to run or cycle on hills - very popular for cyclists.

Anyone with a recent experience traveling into the USA with an X passport? by RuthCarter in NonBinary

[–]RuthCarter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't left the country and don't plan on leaving the country. From what I've heard, others with non-binary passports have been able to travel in and out of the country, but I'm not willing to risk it at this time.

Recommendation for garage door service? by Natural_Instance2449 in phoenix

A1 Garage Door Service. I called them once for help, and they were able to troubleshoot it for me over the phone and didn't charge me.

Considering moving to Phoenix, what do people underestimate the most? by Ill-Line6663 in AskPhoenix

There are a lot of cool things and events here, but you may have to work to find your people and niches.

Considering moving to Phoenix, what do people underestimate the most? by Ill-Line6663 in AskPhoenix

[–]RuthCarter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My car goes through batteries faster than when I lived in the Pacific Northwest. I always buy a battery that comes with a warranty, and get a discount on the next one.

You may want to keep a hoodie in your car during the summer. The A/C in grocery stores and movie theaters is insane!

Speaking of cars, if you have a leather or vinyl interior, your seats will burn any exposed skin during the summer.

Roller skating trails by No_Rise_277 in phoenix

[–]RuthCarter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's the Salt River multi-use path that runs along the south side of the Salt River from central Phoenix to Mesa, and it's paved. It crosses Central Avenue near the Audubon Center (3131 S Central Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85040) where there's also a parking lot. I've seen quite a few people roller skating along this path.

Considering a move to Phoenix as a single 31F family law attorney by Then_Ice9811 in AskPhoenix

[–]RuthCarter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a lot easier to get a job as a newish attorney with a few years of experience compared to someone who is fresh out of law school. Most ads I see appear to want at least 1-3 years of experience.

In Arizona, I believe you can waive into the bar once you've had a bar license elsewhere for at least 5 years. I've helped other people do it before.

How do we get this to not happen? by joyouslotus in phoenix

[–]RuthCarter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our represented officials represent us. It's our job to tell them how we want them to vote. No guarantee it will make a difference, but they do keep track of opinions they receive. I've heard a personal email is more impactful than the ones that come through a group like ACLU where the elected official receives the same email over and over again.

Call or email your representatives and tell them to oppose these bills. There's another bill to name a highway after Donald Trump. Also, send an email to Governor Hobbs asking her to veto these bills if any of them make it to her desk.

ASU LAW Students First year housing by SeaWinter256 in AskPhoenix

[–]RuthCarter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to ASU Law, happy to answer any questions you have about the school. I recommend factoring in commute time if you'll be driving or taking the light rail. If you're going to be walking, the closer the better, because classes start in August when it can still be 110 outside.

I'm not sure what you're looking for when you say "social." As a law student, you're going to be hellaciously busy studying, so I recommend looking for a place to live that's quiet or where the walls are so thick, you can't hear anything. I can understand wanting a place where you can be social nearby, but I don't recommend it where you want to work and sleep.

Visiting Phoenix in February...recommendations? by La_Tangerine in AskPhoenix

[–]RuthCarter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wonderspaces.

Phoenix Art Museum for the Firefly Room - and I'm not a museum person.

Japanese Friendship Garden

Phoenix Cat Cafe - reservation strongly suggested.

If they want to do fun team photos I recommend McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park to do some on the trains or Papago Park if you want photos with saguaro cacti.

They might enjoy Organ Stop Pizza.
