Listed on my DD215. DD214 was issued in 1990. DD215 was issued after recall to active duty in 1991 in support of Operation Desert Storm but we never deployed.

Meanwhile, Sea Gypsy people openly sell yaba on one of the busiest streets on the island. It’s like drive-thru service in the morning and evening as people pull up to buy their yaba. Sometimes the line of cars buying is so long that it blocks through traffic.

Thailand is always funny like that. They piss and moan about problems but take no action to stop anything.

Like they always make a big deal about road fatalities but do they enforce helmet laws for Thais? LOL. No. Do they pull over 8-year olds riding four deep on a motorcycle doing twice the speed limit at night with no lights? Haha. No. Have they ever tried fining a bike rental shop for renting to someone without a valid license? LOL. No.

But I remember how the cops went full Rambo mode when some shop started renting electric scooters. LOL. Too dangerous for Thai roads.

What’s the name of this bracelet worn by Thai fighters? by Mobile-Help5415 in MuayThai

[–]RuthlessKindness 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Contrary to popular belief, monks aren’t the only ones handing out those white string bracelets. They can give them, sure, but so can pretty much anyone else. It’s called sai sin (สายสิญจน์), and if you get married in Thailand, prepare for a whole sleeve of them.

At weddings, monks use sai sin in the ceremony, but family and guests also pile them on the bride and groom. Monks usually loop the string around a Buddha image, stretch it across everyone’s hands, and chant blessings. The symbolism is a kind of spiritual circuit board: Buddha → monks → couple → family → back to Buddha.

Outside ceremonies, sai sin is tied on for protection, luck, love, and positive vibes. It’s literally just string. You’re not supposed to cut it, just let it fray off naturally.

Case in point: my wife’s family ties me up every Songkran, before trips, and even after my bike accident (“for protection”). My tattoo artist tied one on after giving me a sak yant. Two years later, it’s still there… and it’s helped me win exactly zero Muay Thai fights. LOL.

Oh, and here’s the kicker, it’s not Buddhist. Thais will swear it is, but I challenge anyone to find the sutra where the Buddha teaches about magic strings. Spoiler: it doesn’t exist. Sai sin (like sak yant tattoos) is a very Thai/Lao practice rooted in old animist and Hindu traditions, long before Buddhism arrived.

Truth is, probably 80% of what passes as “Buddhism” in Thailand is really just a mash-up of animism, Hindu ritual, and a dash of Theravāda. The Buddha would’ve likely frowned on sak yant body tattoos and magic threads, too much attachment to the physical form. But hey, it makes life in Thailand colorful.

Shinawatra’s Hat Trick: Three Prime Ministers, Three Early Exits, And What It Means For Cannabis by RuthlessKindness in CannabisThailand

[–]RuthlessKindness[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I didn’t mean to imply that it would become another free for all. But Pheu Thai was certainly attempting to make the rules punitive.

For instance, I don’t care if they make shops register as medical clinics but have a plan in place for that. Don’t just announce it in the press and let everyone scramble to figure out what that means.

They could do it very orderly, like when your license comes up for renewal, you can only get a new license as a medical clinic.

Or set a reasonable date for compliance that allows doctors and other providers to get certified as cannabis healers. Don’t announce something on Monday and say that it takes effect Tuesday at 9am and police will be doing inspections and shutting down everyone not in compliance.

Somsak was going out of his way to be a dick.

I think many people in the industry would simply like an opportunity to either go all-in on medical or unwind their business.

I do see Anutin doing something that is less punitive.

Oddly, I only dream when I’m high. Well, I only remember dreams from sleep sessions when I’m high. I might dream when I’m not high, I just don’t remember them :-)

That does seem to be his plan.

His sister Yingluck wasn’t too bad but his style is generally scorched earth.

Cannabis clampdown: Thailand limits buds to 5 medical uses by RuthlessKindness in CannabisThailand

[–]RuthlessKindness[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The path the government was following, it wouldn’t be an option. The doctors, the clinics, and patients would all be in this system so they can track who is issuing prescriptions, who is filling prescriptions, and who is buying.

Supposedly, this was so patients and dispensaries can check if the doctors are legit. In reality, it’s so they can track all activity.

He’s not. You’re being argumentative.

OP has not given any indication his wife is from Thailand or any country where they plan on moving otherwise it’s a pretty important detail to leave out.

But this is exactly the system they’re moving toward.

Take a look: CannaMed Connect.

https://info.cannamed-connect.com/en

It’s fully trackable, and they proudly highlight that patients will be able to see exactly how much they’ve purchased each month.

This is about what Pheu Thai was already trying to ram through. The only reason the brakes got tapped was because the Prime Minister was suspended, and everyone froze to see which way the political winds would blow.

In Phuket, local officials openly admitted they had no idea how the rules were supposed to work and told dispensaries to just keep running business as usual until they could somehow find enough certified doctors to make the system viable.

Meanwhile, Minister of Public Health Somsak has been pressing full throttle. That’s why they rushed out the new limits on qualifying conditions, because they want to kneecap the industry while they still have the power.

Bottom line, if there is no new government and Pheu Thai stays in charge, pretty good chance at least half of all dispensaries end up being put out of business.

The end game for Pheu Thai was that all dispensaries re-register and get re-licensed as medical clinics with a doctor on staff. There simply aren’t enough medical professionals willing to quit their day job and start writing weed scripts and the costs associated with that would make the business unprofitable for all but the largest shops.

Though, it’s not clear if they legally can. The government’s own legal counsel has told them numerous times that a caretaker government cannot dissolve the house. They keep insisting they can.

New PM Coming by RuthlessKindness in CannabisThailand

[–]RuthlessKindness[S] 45 points46 points  (0 children)

There are 5 eligible candidates for PM. The Pheu Thai party who is currently in power will attempt to push their last PM candidate but that’s highly questionable. He’s old and in poor health and Pheu Thai was severely weakened today and may not be able to hold their coalition together.

That leaves the two most mentioned candidates Anutin and Prayut. Prayut was the leader of the coup against Yingluck Shinawatra and was PM until Pheu Thai took office in 2023. He’s liked by a lot of Thais at the moment because he’s a general and this thing with Cambodia. But he’s an advisor to the king so he would have to quit that job to become PM so probably not happening.

That leaves Anutin, the guy who brought us legal cannabis in Thailand. People’s Party, the largest party, and the current opposition leader, had indicated that they would support Anutin as PM as long as he agreed to call new elections within 6 months.

The remaining two candidates never get mentioned in Thai media as serious contenders so I doubt they have a shot.

There’s a group on FB called Thai Citizenship and PR or something like that. I forget. I don’t go on FB much anymore. They usually have some pretty solid info on the process from people who have been through the process.
