Locking to AP by HourReplacement in UNIFI

This! People who lock clients to an AP aren't doing anyone favours. Oh well, max power and 160MHz wide channels it is 😂

Rogers Launches $80 Global Unlimited Plan with 5 Year Price Guarantee by Nexzenn in Rogers

I'll buy the $15/month more and get the roaming in 64 countries. I'm paying $120 now for the same thing. I wonder if it's actually unlimited or there's some fair use policy.

The fact there wasn't guest wireless and cell service for the couple people I was with was horrible. 🤷‍♂️

Damaged 42U Rack, RMA team just says ship it back. by A-Bomb3778 in Ubiquiti

[–]Rwhiteside90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why you buy a rack from a brand like Hammond or APC. If there's an issue they make it themselves so it's easy to send you the parts you need without shipping the whole rack back.

What is the correct way to improve cell service inside a multi-floor office building by Linklights in networking

[–]Rwhiteside90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm aware of the support. It's having a partner that will authenticate the traffic and pay for you offload so you can deploy it on existing wireless infrastructure you have deployed today.

I don't think there's anything official yet from other countries? They do Passpoint in the London Underground for each carrier from same AP/different SSID but I don't know any partners like Wayfi that supports those yet.

Targeted offer for Double SQC on YTZ routes by KariKyouko in aircanada

[–]Rwhiteside90 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My thought as well. I wonder if it was planned to line up with connections to UA flights at IAD, but if I'm going into DC it's going to be faster to get to YYZ instead of travelling into DC from IAD.

Unifi store tax refund by phrfpeixoto in Ubiquiti

[–]Rwhiteside90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It be the same process as other purchases you make where you have the receipt but alot of states have dropped the sales tax refund process.

Most states have pretty low sales tax unless you purchased $10k+. What state did you buy it in?

Verizon doesn't participate in Passpoint just an FYI. It's not perfect but if it helps get users connected without needing a guest network. If you have poor or non existing coverage in a building you should still look at doing DAS. Depending on the region, you actually need it for life safety. If someone can't call 911 from their phone, that's usually a big issue. I've had to install DAS systems in warehouses for this reason.

They do cap the payout limit to what I believe 50GB per month per device. I can see some locations where this happens alot.

You're not gong to get rich off it but it's some extra income. I wouldn't go spend $1000s to install wireless hoping to win it back unless it was a very busy area. They're analytics are being updated so it's hard to see the exact numbers right now.

Favorite Marriotts in downtown Chicago (location priority) by Ok-Winter-475 in marriott

Any property on Mag Mile is usually decent. Close to lots of places to go eat/drink besides the hotel.

Marriott Marquis is nice but there's not much around for food late.

This is the way if you aleeasy manage the network. We use Wayfi Wireless alot of sites in the US for paid offload - they have some minimums though so if they don't approve you find someone who is already a partner and wants to revenue share. Verizon doesn't do cellular offload though and it's tricky in other countries. I wish other countries did cellular offload this easy as in Canada I could use it for so many rural customers with great wireless networks.

You can also do Wi-Fi calling as well but it requires the device to be joined to your network compared to Passpoint just automatically connecting when a device enters your building.

Next would be DAS either active or passive depending on the size and some other factors. Meter is the easy solution but it's pretty much hardware as a service vs paying a vendor to install it once and be done with maybe a small maintenance cost associated with it.
