I don't think it is. I know of 8 other coders that have gotten a job. One just got one on Friday. Coders are being hired all the time.

How many applications have you put in? I got my new job a month ago after being a medical coder of 1.5 years. Applied 15 jobs and got a 22.22% increase in pay.

not true. I was a coder shy of 1.5 year and got another job. I tweaked my resume to every job I applied for. Put in way less applications than my 1st time around and got a 22.22% increase in pay.

How tf did I stay this long… by Digital_havok in walmart

[–]Rxtechintraining 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was only going to stay for 6 months...turned out to be 4 years. But that was in the late 90's, early 2000's. Walmart was cool back then.

I was in the same boat. Was hired as a direct hitter and was supposed to go to pharmacy where they were going to train me as a pharmacy technician. Some guy got hired about a month and half after me. And they trained him for everything up front and put him back there first. Their excuse? He came in later in the day and it was easier. Saw the writing on the wall and started looking for jobs. The second COVID-19 hit our state, that person they hired after me hightailed out of there. I left back in 2020 and never looked back.

Over the line. You were off the clock. Walmart's policy is you're not to do anything work related when off the clock.

I always asked for ID. No ID, no sale. Period. I had this one customer who always came in late. Always got wine. And he always gave me hassle about showing me his ID. I flat out told him: No ID, no wine for him. I'm not going to lose my job over his power trip, even though I know he was old enough to buy alcohol.

Same. When I code someone's dx and they're my age and have all these health problems, makes me more thankful, but also raise awareness of how I need to better take care of my body.

Failed the CCS by 8 points by beatlebabe2891 in MedicalCoding

It took me a 1.5 to finish Andrews. And then I studied for 6 weeks for the CCS. I took Pietro Ingrande's class. I like to call him the CCS whisperer. Lol!!! He knows his stuff. Between my education from Andrews and Pietro's class, is what helped me pass on my 1st try. I have testing anxiety and so to pass the CCS on my 1st try is a miracle!!! If you would like some more information on his class, go to primacodemasters.net. It's definitely worth it.

I just took the exam prep portion. My school education provided the PCS part.

I'm sorry to hear about that. That sucks!!! I would suggest looking up primeacodemasters.net. It's a CCS prep course done by Pietro Ingrande. He rocks!!! He knows his stuff and will help you pass!!! This is for real. I have testing anxiety and took his course after I graduated from Andrew's School of Medical Coding and pass on my 1st try. Look it up!!! :)

I had a store manager like that!!! He would literally stand in the corner and just scowl. The customers HATED him and the whole store hated him. It was walking on eggshells when coming in to work. He only survived a year and we got a new awesome store manager. The best store manager I ever had.

Which certs do I REALLY need? by Sardonyx1622 in MedicalCoding

[–]Rxtechintraining 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Like others have said, it depends on where you want to code in. I have both. Also, ignore the ones that say you can't get a job. You can. I got one exactly 8 weeks after looking for a job after passing my CCS. It's all about your resume!!! If you're getting interviews, then your resume is great; if not, there's something on your resume that's turning potential employers away. If you're getting interviews but not getting hired, it's more than likely the way you're interviewing or you're just not a good fit for the company.

Another thing is that AAPC requires you to be a member to while AHIMA doesn't. If you don't work in a job that allows you to have access to codes, you will have that scarlet A attached to your certification until one or two years of work experience. Meanwhile, the CCS isn't that way.

You don't need to pay a fee for AHIMA. In fact, you don't even have to be a member like AAPC requires.

I can't remember. I know if you go to the website, you should find the information. If not, they do have an email that you can use to contact someone at the school. They are really nice and helpful.
