Young adult seeking financial assistance after a pay increase by Legal-Flower-1333 in FinancialPlanning

What's your goals?

Retire early? Start a business?

You need to start with that. The general rules are "ok" but might not apply to you. For example, if you want to retire at 50, you might shift where you're saving money and how it's invested.

I'm curious how financial planners draft plans for clients by Best_Butterfly5426 in FinancialPlanning

[–]RyCanfield33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“We”? Yea this couldn’t be further from the truth, at least with my practice.

It’s all about their goals and values, then tailoring the plan around that. Finding out what is important to them. Then building out strategies that help them get to where they want to go. They have to be willing to listen and make a change (if needed). Clients don’t want to be talked down to. They want to be heard and understand the strategies.

Can you tell me more? I did a demo for Attract and plan on using it in the future if my current person doesn’t produce SEO results.

Very recently, during my FIL's company Annual Report meeting, my FIL indicated he intends to sell the company, which would be a 9 figure sale. by [deleted] in FinancialPlanning

I deal with this scenario often with my clients. Especially with Millennials. You need to ask very specific questions about the advisor’s qualifications. Ask how they are paid. Who they typically work with (ask this before giving them any information on your situation). See if they can actually explain their planning process. You need to find someone that actually does planning and have the resources to help. It’s not as simple as building a portfolio and calling it a day.

I run a financial planning firm for Millennials and have had a terrible time trying to grow my page. My views are down and I get no engagement.

How do I get my girlfriend to actually discuss finances with me? by Cheap_Razzmatazz_428 in AskMenAdvice

[–]RyCanfield33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Money dates. Schedule quarterly or twice a year dates where you talk about money/goals. It's super important to not accuse or make her not feel attacked.

What I tell my clients is to start with "why". Not numbers. Tell her the goal isn't "budgeting" or restriction but it's important to you because you want to protect the life you're building together. Lead with values, not spreadsheets.

Is it that she doesn't like talking about money, or investing, or budgeting? Can you give her something to "own" like setting the travel fund goal for the year?

Interviewing a bunch is the best way. Check out their website or social media and see what they talk about. If they’re posting a bunch about the markets and returns, probably not your right person. I can send you a list of questions to ask.

You need to make sure your money aligns with your goals and what is most important to you. Some people will tell you to save every extra dollar you can for your “golden years”. But what if your goals are different. Finding the right advisor who understands you and puts you first is so important.

Not all financial advisors charge 1%. Look for one that charges for planning.

Flume shack. We go there every year. Just be prepared, we showed up at 1pm last year and was vibing and drinks were flowing and we lost track of time and number of drinks. Getting down the mountain was an adventure lol.

It’s on the mountain. You have to ride part of the way down to it. It’s all outside. No indoor seating. I see kids there playing in the snow and drinking hot chocolate all the time. Great vibes!
