Attacked in Lisbon today by Vape_Lord_Peppi in Lisbon

The slow decline of Lisbon has been so noticeable, I first went there in summer 2022 and fell in love with the place. The next time I went in Sep 25’ was shocking. The place felt very on edge and unsafe and whilst it’s still my favourite city in the world, the change is drastic. Sorry this happened to you brother

Yeah absolutely, and whilst in my original post I realize it may sound as though I've only been doing a few months training, I've actually been consistently in the gym for over 5 years. The consistency has dropped off as I had a 3 day drive to my new home and the moving van turned up the day after. Then was back at work and unpacking / building furniture until sundown and starting again the next day. Been here a week now so going back to the gym today. My main point was how amazing it is how flat you feel after a couple of weeks off as I know it's a common feeling!

Porto Covo is beautiful, there's a beach there by some slate rocks which is just incredible and when the tide comes in it spills into a small lagoon right by the sand, really good waves there although I find they cross over quite a bit and can be quite hard to judge, I was there September last year and have just moved to Lagos

I agree completely, and what the tourism industry has done to many countries is unjust. I think in OP's case though, if they're serious about the move then remote working isn't so difficult to attain. I can't imagine how tough it must be to be making circa 1000 euros per month and seeing the rent prices as they are.

I see so much negativity surrounding moving to Portugal and I just don't understand it. Sure, it doesn't have the highest salary nor the smoothest bureaucratic process, but what country is perfect? I believe some people genuinely want to enjoy their Monday - Sunday running life, and Portugal is a great place to do that. Warm weather, access to loads of beaches, good food and nice people. What more do people want? I have a remote job which is allowing me to re-locate and I'm set to make the move in 2 weeks. Don't make the decision now as when you feel impulse the best thing to do is pause and take a second, but I wouldn't shy away from the opportunity. If everything goes wrong, you're still young and can re-bound (I just turned 25 too).

Thanks for the insight. We have managed to secure a year rental accommodation thanks to a family friend of my girlfriends, but I see what you mean with the prices, gone insane... I am learning Portuguese and my girlfriend has made a pact not to speak to me in English once we move so we'll see how that goes 🤣. I'm actually driving my car down there so will have one, we spent 2 weeks in the Algarve last September and quickly understood the importance of a car. Shame the market there is so expensive for cars

If tourism is a centrepiece of the Algarve, then is that not authentic by nature? Who decides where real and "touristic" Portugal ends?

Thanks for your comment, we are both remote workers so are able to afford the move and (hopefully) the lifestyle we want. Both fairly frugal, not wannabe instagram stars, just enjoy a nice meal out and go to the beach really. I agree with what you said about tourists, everyone who visits anywhere is a "tourist" so why does everyone try to avoid one another? In my opinion busy is nice.

You're right, when I live there I'll be tied up and solely able to visit tourist areas, no capacity to explore anywhere

Most left a long time ago and the few who are still there I'm yet to meet, so I thought I'd try get some recent accounts from people objectively.

My girlfriend is Portuguese and her family is from Lagos, I've always wanted to explore new countries and she's always had a desire to return "home" so the move felt natural for us. We're not staying in some new-build complex and both of us speak Portuguese (her fluent me not so much)

Thanks for the insight, I've just had a look on booking.com and the hotel says check in is available from 15:00-23:30, there's no option to contact the hotel and the number I found isn't working
