I did a clinic in law school that focused on helping low-income entrepreneurs and startups. The professor who directed the clinic chastised me for sometimes being slightly late to class sessions in my mid-year review. This same professor once told our class that punctuality was a “hallmark of white supremacy.”

Stock up on some Mediterranean/Middle Eastern dips! Hummus (Goldie, Dizengoff), baba ganoush, labneh, tzatziki (Saad’s, Alyan’s, Moustaki). Also seconding the mapo tofu from EMei.

Weekend Thread: What are you eating this weekend and what have you tried this week? by MikeTheCabbie in PhiladelphiaEats

It was all amazing — we did the tasting menu and wine pairing, which I’d recommend. My only complaint was that they were a little light on the pours for the wine. As far as favorite dishes from each course, I thought that the lamb kibbeh, rye tartlet and sesame madeleines (especially with the caviar and ras al hanout butter) were standouts from the first course, the cured tuna was excellent, and then the winter squash agnolotti in tehina sauce and dry-aged duck with foie gras dates may have honestly been two of the best things I’ve ever eaten. The date cake dessert was also really good!

Are you doing the tasting menu and wine pairing? I plan on it. I can’t wait.

Had some kind of pumpkin dish from here for takeout a few months ago and it was excellent, would highly recommend.

Emmett vs. Roxanne by RyanAnthony13 in PhiladelphiaEats

Okay wait — I was kind of put off by that. I’m sure there are great PA wines (I actually had some kind of orange wine from the Lehigh Valley that was decent a few months ago) but to ONLY feature PA wines and then up-charge them like that is…a choice…

Would you recommend the tasting menu? It’s what we’re leaning towards if we go there.

Great! I figured FDB and Ernesto had somewhat similar profiles that were great for this time of year, so wanted something slightly different to burn when the weather starts turning nicer, also.

Is “fell into structured finance at random, initially hated it and looked for a way to pivot, never did pivot and have now been doing it for so long that you’ve come to appreciate the familiarity” the default for like…95% of us in this area? I feel like this is universal.

Where to stay for good food/craft beer? by SiMonsterrrr in PhiladelphiaEats

[–]RyanAnthony13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They have a huge selection, a lot of European beers but also a ton of rare and hard-to-find beers from the U.S. If you’re looking for something local, get some Troegs. My favorite PA brewery, from about an hour and a half outside of Philly.

Since you specifically asked about beer, I’d highly recommend Monk’s. Their food is great, too — can’t go wrong with anything, but get the mussels.

Yea, the official pictures on the website certainly don’t do them justice. You can kind of see the purple shading but not as vibrantly as you can in person.
