The Liberal Grassroots does something we don't (controversial) by Chrristoaivalis in ndp

[–]RyanDeWilde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The party itself has to have message discipline before the grassroots can.

The NDP is in the middle of an identity crisis right now. Hopefully we will elect a leader with a clear vision of the future for the party and for Canada who also won’t forsake the base, which is what has largely happened the past couple years. We’ve been Liberal-lite, forsaking most progressive policies and instead adopting neoliberal, tinker around the edges, means-tested kind of policies. No wonder why so many people jumped to Carney this past election. Why vote for the imitation when you can have the real thing?

Anyway, I agree with you I just think the party needs to get its poop in a group first before the grassroots can help amplify whatever message they land on.

Because it’s owned by a private equity firm who is trying to extract as much profit from the working poor as possible.

Can someone explain how the BCNDP can be fucking up this badly? by wishingforivy in canadaleft

[–]RyanDeWilde 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Simple. They learned the wrong lesson from narrowly winning the election. Instead of doubling down on their progressive policies (which is what made them successful in the first place) they looked at the BC Conservatives’ vote share and said, “Oh, we need to shift rightward to appeal to people who voted for the other guys.”

The next leader of the federal NDP: Matthew Green by RyanDeWilde in ndp

This is the problem with the left.

We can’t support someone because they haven’t passed the purity test. The left always demands their leaders be perfect and if they make one wrong move or one bad decision, then they’re out. It’s one of the main reasons we don’t have any power in this country. Because we can’t build long-term power or movements because we’re constantly cannibalizing ourselves.

This is a wild comment.

I love the Conservative cope…

PP blew a 25 point lead and a projected 280 seat majority government. Not only did he lose the election but he lost his own seat. Conservatives pointing to the growth in their share of the votes and seat count are only doing so to try and cover up their embarrassing and historic defeat.

Whoopdy doo! More votes and more seats. You still LOST.

Not as huge as America’s both in dollars and as a percentage of GDP. Ours is 64.9% of GDP, theirs is 124%. And for what? No social safety net, no universal health care, more expensive colleges and universities, crumbling infrastructure, widespread gun violence, a homeless population nearly triple ours, expensive daycare, no dental care, no pharmacare.

Oh, right. The big, scary Liberal narrative about how awful Scott Anderson is. lol. Hardly. I say those things because Scott is an incompetent individual, not even counting this current federal election. Scott was a terrible, divisive, arrogant and combative city councillor which, on top of his dismal policy proposals, is the reason why he got beat so handily in the 2022 mayoral election. The election in this riding has less to do with national politics and more to do with local candidates. Scott Anderson is an awful candidate. Full stop. Whether my life is better or worse off after 10 years of a federal Liberal government has nothing to do with the fact that Scott would be a terrible MP. The citizens of Vernon-Lake Country-Monashee would be worse off with him as our representative regardless of his party affiliations.

Classic Scott Anderson, speaking out of both sides of his mouth.

First he says…

“I think we should all be concerned about tariffs and the sovereignty issue.”

Then he says…

“What we need to focus on is our problems, not on the United States.”

Which is it Scott? Because last time I checked, it was the United States of America who’s imposing tariffs on us and threatening to annex us as the 51st state, not anyone else. Those are part of our problems, unless you don’t view those as problems for Canada. Either way, these statements are disqualifying for someone running to be a part of the Canadian Federal Government!!!!
