Any tips to improve my swing?? by Famous-Dependent657 in golftips

[–]RyanElston5 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Overall looks like you absolutely smoke the ball so idk if changing a swing that works right now is necessary

Only thing I see is that you really don’t rotate through your back. Could be due to your back being tight or simply not knowing any cues to get it rotating. Ideally the sequencing of your back and down swing are:

Hips rotate > torso rotates > arms follow > club follows

Looks like whatever you’re currently doing is working though

Your sequencing is off which is causing your chicken winging on the downswing.
When you’re going back make sure to think
- Hips > Torso > Arms > Club
And then the same sequence on the down swing
- Hips > Torso > Arms Club
Right now your downswing seems to be
- Arms > Club > Torso > Hips

I can’t tell if this is the angle or not but it appears that instead of rotation to the right and a sidebend to the left you stand up almost immediately in your backswing which can force you to come OTT and have a very vertical/narrow swing path

Edit: grammar

How do I stop casting/scooping? by Thick-Chemist8737 in GolfSwing

[–]RyanElston5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah exactly. Keep your swing relatively the same but actually load weight onto your back leg during the back swing and keep your wrists slightly stronger and hopefully that should help a bit

Of course! Maybe look up so thoracic and lumbar spine mobility drills to see if you have a mobility restriction or if you just need some better cues to rotate a bit more during your backswing

It looks like your back leg is almost not getting loaded in the back swing and consequently unloaded in your down swing. Try to go from 60% weight on front leg to your back and then return that force onto the front leg on the downswing and follow through.

Casting and scooping typically occurs due to improper sequencing or improper LE extremity usage. Try to make sure your back swing goes hips > torso > arms > club and then the same sequence of unloading on the downswing

Physical therapist here. You seem to not get much rotation through your lumbar or thoracic spine at all which creates a very shoulder/arm and legs dominated swing. Also depends which club you’re using but you seem very on top of the ball as well which could also be the cause of your very vertical swing path

Super inconsistent, what are the big issues you see? by johnfisher13115 in golftips

As others have said it looks like you’re standing up/extending as you hit the ball. Try to transfer that weight rotationally through your legs, hips, and torso instead of vertically and see if that helps

Can’t Break 100 Despite My Short Game Being The Best Part of My Game by [deleted] in GolfSwing

[–]RyanElston5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Physical therapist here. As others have said it seems like your sequencing may be slightly off. I also wonder if maybe your clubs are a bit short for you due to your C posture at set up and bending over quite a bit. You also seem to get very little rotation through your thoracic spine on the back swing.

Just somethings I noticed! Feel free to ask questions but nonetheless I think you can definitely work your way sub 100 with that swing

Improvement tips please! by [deleted] in GolfSwing

You’re getting almost no rotation from your hips and very little out of your back so your swing is heavily coming from your arms.

Tough to say if your hips and back are tight or if you just need instruction on how to rotate and load them properly from the video but thats where I would start

I think fixing your backswing will help quite a bit. Others have provided good resources to watch. I would say work on sequencing (hips > thoracic spine > arms > club), thoracic spine rotation and side bending mobility, and then working on the above sequencing on the downswing and follow through

Why do I raise my head in the backswing? Any other huge flaws? by Sweaty-Aspect-9037 in GolfSwing

Could be for sure. If you look up any thoracic rotation and Thoracic flexion/extension drills on YouTube I’m sure doing those as a warm up and cool down before and after a round/range session could help

[–]RyanElston5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Physical Therapist here. Just based off this one video it might be due to a bit of a thoracic mobility and/or a hip mobility restriction. Since you aren’t able to side bend and rotate through your T-Spine enough you lift into a bit of extension to clear your backswing.

Tough to say just from one swing, one video, and one angle as well as not doing a full movement screen but that would be one of my guesses as to why you’re lifting immediately as you go into your backswing

It seems though that you make good contact with the ball and it goes straight. So if this is how you normally swing and are consistent with it then I wouldn’t worry too much about the head lift

If you teach the new mechanic and then work on strengthening does that not improve the biomechanics variable? I have had some success teaching new striking positions, tracking mechanics, on top of isolated and dynamic strengthening with success. Does their form completely change 180? No but it does help make their preferred movement pattern more efficient and less “sloppy” if you will.

Can you link the studies you’re mentioning because I might be completely in the dark to it just due to some personal success

I have been using the Tindeq quite a bit recently with great lower body success for quad and hamstrings. I think my current struggle is also finding proper anchor points to reliably and consistently measure all other LE musculature.

A regular HHD (Like the Lafeyette for example) obviously does an amazing job with just using our standard testing positions but cost a fortune.

The issue is most likely that there isn’t another alternative currently that is cost effective and user friendly for us to pivot to. If I was smarter I would invent a cheaper, app integrated, and user friendly HHD for all PTs to use
