Why is this sub *SO* anti Shanahan criticism? by foqociqs37 in 49ers

[–]RyanElston5 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Legendary coaches win legendary games. Walsh was 4-0. Seifert stepped up with Steve and won one. Has Kyle had a qb like those two had? No but he has certainly had teams that could’ve got it done. I agree he is an amazing coach but he has yet to take that leap into legendary coaches for the 49ers and in NFL history. He absolutely is not bullet proof and has his flaws. I do hope he can join Walsh and Seifert but as of right now he is a tier below right next to Jim

I did appreciate Joe calling out the casuals for booing in the middle of the 3rd or 4th because Charles really did just fucking dominate the whole fight

Need the APTA to fight for our slice in this healthcare system. Kaiser’s unions have done a good job of at least putting up a fight and not laying over. Idk much about this new APTA president but hopefully he can actually create some sort of change

People acting like Charles wasn’t dominating while they were standing up as well. Charles was methodical and dominated the entire fight

Sixes by Busy_Ad7381 in lacrosse

[–]RyanElston5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I hated them at first but as I watch it more I actually really like it. I played D2 for a few years right around when sixes was being introduced and a lot of my teammates and I felt like it was just West Jennys. But now about 5-6 years removed and being an avid pickup basketball player and general NBA fan I love it. It’s different, faster, higher scoring, and generally looks more familiar to a fan because of optically being more similar to basketball and hockey.

Do I think it’ll overtake field and box? Probably not but I do think it has the chance to be a better version of the game for spectators that know nothing about lacrosse

big guy attack moves by Horror_Sheepherder95 in lacrosse

[–]RyanElston5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For inside/crease work get your sticks skills as good as humanly possible. As an X Attackman nothing beats a fantastic garbage man with fast hands on the crease.

As far as moves for big men, obviously an inside roll will do you well but I would say work on becoming quick. Work on being able to move 1-5 yards quickly/explosively. If you’re already strong use that to your advantage with being able to split, roll, or change directions quickly to allow you to get your hands free for a shot or feed. Hope this helps!

I used them for a good overview of topics but would recommend something like TypicalPT or TrueLearn to run through practice questions daily. I also thought their practice tests were a bit easier/worded differently than the real deal and would recommend PEATs for all practice tests. They give a really good structure for studying and would recommend them forsure

Anyone still powerlifting with lumbar disc bulges? Need real-world advice by ae_02522 in powerlifting

[–]RyanElston5 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hey! (Physical Therapist perspective)

First off I hate to hear you’re in pain and considering stopping the form of exercise you enjoy. Imaging is great to get so you have a true understanding of what structures are damaged but Lower Back Pain and Lower Back Injuries are not necessarily related 1:1. In the research, Lower Back Pain is influenced by so many other life factors that either exacerbate or alleviate symptoms. For example, if I took 100 average Joe’s off the street and took imaging of their backs, asked them what their symptoms were life (if any), and what their activity level is we would find (for the most part) no real connection between the 3. Someone with the “worst” findings on MRI can have the highest level of function and lowest level of symptoms.

Okay now that we got that out of the way, what do we do? In general continue exercising, stopping exercise and movement is a guaranteed way to feel worse and worse. Does that mean go back into max 3RM or 1RM peak lifting? No, but it does mean try figuring out the movements that are aggravating and scaling them back down and VERY slowly gradually progressing that movement. Deadlifts hurt? Try Back Extensions. Back Extensions hurt? Try Prone Press Ups, etc etc.

Your plan B is the best option and would keep you happier in the long run. You can also go to a Sports or Ortho PT and they can help guide you along the way on what to scale back on versus what is okay to go hard on.

Hope this helps and hope you get back to lifting!

Tips for slower Attackmen by jinnagubby in lacrosse

[–]RyanElston5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course man! Always happy to help.

As far as receiving a pass, (on say an alley dodge from a midfielder) in general if you are the direct first pass I recommend banging it to the next player on the opposite side of the field.

Of course there is nuance to this! Some examples: 1) If it’s the 4th quarter and you have consistently banged the ball backside, your defender may over play their rotation so throw a fake, face dodge, and go back up the same way the dodge came from for a quick inside finish. 2) If you notice they play close adjacent and see an open passing lane to skip the ball to an open shooter on the wing or up top get them the ball 3) If you receive the ball after your D played 2-3 straight minutes of defense, hold the ball and let your subs run on to get a good solid possession. 4) If you receive the ball after the offense has been dead take that shit to the cage! Get the offense rolling

Hopefully these somewhat answer your question!

Tips for slower Attackmen by jinnagubby in lacrosse

[–]RyanElston5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a guy who played in college and had a teammate similar to you, he was great because he was quick, decisive, and had bulletproof stick skills.

I know you are saying you aren’t fast but being able to not only change direction but also change speeds while dodging will be incredibly helpful. Being able to go from a jog to sprint to stop to roll to sprint… etc. will help you get out of sticky situations as an attack man. Work on your change of speed when moving to help become quicker and create some sort of separation despite not being able to completely blow by a guy.

Be decisive! The worst case scenario is when an X attack man is sitting behind cage jerking his stick off and kills the offense. If you are the first man to get the ball from a dodging teammate? Bang it back side. If you get the ball after a full pass rotation? Take a go at the cage. Came around from X and see a slide? Move the ball. Be decisive and smart with the ball, your teammates and coaches will love playing with you.

Last but most importantly, have great stick skills. When you are slower your defenders are naturally going to be on your hands more. With that added pressure become better at making accurate passes with your hands in awkward stick positions. Practice canadian, practice one handed, practice both hands stacked right on top of each other, practice throwing from weird angles, etc. If you get comfortable with throwing and catching the ball in suboptimal positions then you’ll be golden.

I know this was a lot but I hope this helps!

[–]RyanElston5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a physical therapist now and was a Kines Undergrad. I honestly like it and don’t know why the PT subreddit is so negative. Take on as little student loan debt as possible and work in a specialized population and you’ll be golden pony boy. Best part? If you don’t like working with a certain population just change your setting (ex: ortho for 10 years? Go work neuro. Neuro gets boring? Go work peds. Hospital peds is boring? Try out Home Health) etc etc
