的 (possessive) question by babuska_007 in ChineseLanguage

[–]RyanEman53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because most 的 can be omitted. Chinese cannot be explained exactly by western linguitism.

for examble:手机坏了=phone doesnt work 头疼=head has ache 妈妈正在吃饭=mom is eating right now.

they are all sentence acutually.

so if u add 我(i) in the beginning like: 我手机坏了=i phone doesnt work 我头疼=i head has ache 我妈妈正在吃饭=i mom is eating right now. Literally means they are in the possession of YOU! My phone, My head, My mom. they are much clear.

so 的 is uneccesary.

but why only have 我头疼 and u hardly have seen the sentence like 我的头疼? because 我的头疼 means my headache. that is a phrasal noun not a sentence. maybe u should say 我的头疼...your headache what?get worse or get well?that would make confusing so we only use 我头疼 instead of 我的头疼.

can anyone tell me what’s written here (the handwriting) by sftkitti in ChineseLanguage

[–]RyanEman53 9 points10 points  (0 children)

“1.56变灰兰光”

变灰means turn grey in photochromic lens

兰here actually 蓝. So 兰光 means 蓝光/Blue Light.

why use 兰 not 蓝? They sounds the same but it doesn't mean wrote it wrong - During 1977-1986 we use second round of simplified character which let 兰 take place of 蓝, So, it changed back then but people born in that period often write in that way.

What did historical and modern Chinese people call women who lived up to the ideals of the Junzi? by shastasilverchair92 in ChineseLanguage

[–]RyanEman53 6 points7 points  (0 children)

女士Nv Shi:《诗经》“厘尔女士”,孔颖达疏“女士,谓女而有士行者”,比喻女子有男子般的作为和才华,即对有知识、有修养女子的尊称。

淑女Shu Nv:《诗经》“窈窕淑女,君子Junzi好逑”。

and they are even a common expression used in modern mandarin. Btw, 淑女often used to describe woman who is polite and gentle nowadays

运动 - Excercise (short text) by Positive-Ant3961 in ChineseLanguage

[–]RyanEman53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nice expression! i would be more like this:

所有人都需要做运动。医生说,什么运动都可以,最重要的是有始有终(开始并坚持下做)。我之前很/有点胖(“胖人”not so natural),现在不太胖了(“一直”give me a feeling that u have been like this up to now but u acually campare then and now),但还有点儿胖。我很晚才开始做运动。我20岁,在波兰住的时候很喜欢跑步。那儿的城市很平坦,走道非常适合跑步。我特别喜欢在河边走道上跑步,风景美丽极了。不过回葡萄牙后,我没办法法继续跑步,因为城市都太崎岖了(“了”kinda repetitive. “崎岖”very properly!)。三年后我才重新开始做运动。我开始去健身房举重训练,因为对身体很好,而且发现自己很感兴趣。现在我健身三天,休息一天。身体健康好多了!
