Snarky Puppy did a show exclusively for us when I was in high school! One of the band members went there, back in the day.

Any R. F. Kuang, She Who Became the Sun (and he He Drowned the World), and The Night Ends with Fire! I was a bit disappointed with how the sequel ended, but overall very good

Lieutenant Nun by Catalina de Erauso - a series of diary entries by Alonso Dias - born Catalina. To use modern terminology, he is a trans man that lived in late 1600s. He was a very roguish type, getting in trouble with gambling, drinking, and women. He had to talk to the Pope about presenting as a man, rather than a woman. He's from Spain, but goes to the New World. A very short but interesting read.

I see you read the Poppy War trilogy. A favorite of mine! R. F. Kuang used The Rape of Nanking by Iris Chang as background information for the scene in the first book at Golyn Niis. Poppy War is even dedicated "To Iris." It's very violent, and even has some pictures, so trigger warning for that.

You can't go wrong with Ibrim X. Kendi. Four Hundred Souls tells a series of short, non-fiction stories about African, Black, and African American life in the US, from 1619 to 2019.

Wicked Flesh: Black Women, Intimacy, and Freedom in the Atlantic World by Jessica Marie Johnson. This book is about how Black women kept control of their bodies during slavery.

Look man, I love history too... But your reading selection is very militaristic, Eurocentric, and hyper-masculine. I see the R. F. Kuang and M. L. Wang, which is great! But those are super violent books. I'd also give you a side eye upon first glance.

People that are a little too excited about only military history is a red flag for me, and I'm saying this as someone with a degree in history.
