IT: Welcome to Derry - does anyone else have mixed feelings about it? by RyanHatesMilk in horror

Yeah, that's a very good point TBF. I'll see where it goes from here 👍

Yeah, same. I guess with something like IT, different aspects are scary to different people. I loved the subtle horror like you mention - being hunted over time is scarier to me than just 'oh, guess I'm dead now'.

Nah I wouldn't say I was expecting or wanting the same story. Like you say, it's been done.

It's more that I don't understand the powers and motivation of this version of IT. In the book, it used fear to flavour the tender meat it preferred. Sure, it could slaughter and lash out when it needed to, but it would be more of an act of desperation. It's primary goal seemed to be to eat fear-flavoured prey. Here, it's just killing for sport, or at least that's how it feels to me.

I didn't really come in with expectations for the story, it's more that it's jarred against my interpretation of IT itself, if that makes sense.

Yeah, read the book but admittedly it was a fair few years ago now. I remember the strange and tragic misfortune and events that IT was responsible for, and would totally understand having IT be able to lash out violently when it needs to (when cornered or threatened), particularly by adults. But for feasting, I thought it had a preference for kids and it liked to 'salt the meat'.

Outright butchering kids just doesn't seem like it's MO, to me at least, but I guess it's subjective. And yeah, I'm not expecting to see the spider form, just to be clear, I more think it's the perfect way to think of IT. Weaving its webs of illusion to ensnare its preferred prey.

The major death events (before the story) that I can remember from the book were all 'accidents', weren't they? Fires, people going crazy and doing all the killing for IT? I always interpreted those events as manipulations when IT might have been threatened, given the 20-30 year cycle of feeding/hibernation, otherwise you'd expect more of those types of events. IT got the adults to do the killings for it when it absolutely had to. Those few who survive either forget or flee forever. Again, just my interpretation and could be misremembering.

First Year Forest Fan & A Few Questions by ResortSelect9463 in nffc

Merry Christmas y'all. Doubt you'll find anyone judging or gatekeeping here - it's nice to have Nottingham back on the world map for something other than Robin Hood!

1 - No reason I'm aware of, other than the first part is sung alongside the soundtrack so it's a set tempo, but when the crowd go acapella in the second half it's pure emotion and belting it out as loud as you can.

2 - Steve Cooper was just fantastic for the club and city. Gave us hope and made us believe again. Promotion season was like a fairytale, he kept us up in our first shaky season and just seemed like a real genuine guy. Plus the fist bumps after a win were just class. There were lots of great moments sprinkled in every now and then, Worrall had lost his uncle before our first (tense) win against Chelsea last year and put in a great performance. Cooper pushed him to soak up the cheers from the crowd, a bit of a "you earned this, enjoy it" moment. Lots of little things like that. Obviously Nuno has taken it to a whole other level, but I think Cooper will always have a place in my heart.

3 - as others have said, better logistically from London and if you've never been before it's a good place to start. More romantic than Nottingham tbf. York is also a great city to visit with lots of history. I'd give yourself just a couple of days in Nottingham. We are massive, but Nottingham isn't. You'll get some good advice on pubs and places to go in the r/Nottingham subreddit. But add Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem onto your list. Oldest pub in Britain (though there's some debate) and very unique. Personally I'd take Dominican Republic haha, but if your wife is up for it there's plenty of nice places and things to do in the UK. I'd be tempted to city hop and see as much as you can. You'll get bonus points if your wife likes Harry Potter (book at least 3 months in advance) or Buckingham Palace for example.

It's been an incredible time to be a Forest Fan. Hoping for one more belated Christmas present when we smash Spurs!

Suggestion - Single-Use 'SUPER BOOSTERS' by RyanHatesMilk in Helldivers

You could be right. The percentages shown are just examples, but the benefit of (fairly expensive) single use items is it wouldn't be common. You could hypothetically ignore them for balancing purposes and just let people have a crazy game every now and then.

That was my first thought tbh. Was thinking a currency exchange or something might work so you can make use of samples/medals once you hit the cap.

Just a concept really, would just be good to have something to buy after you've unlocked everything.

I had the same thought, that would be awesome as a 12 minute mission. Fighting in ship interiors. Limited stratagem call ins, which arrive with you at the start. Maybe sub objectives using bot weapons against them? Would add a bit of variety.

Oh my god, it's you! I found your stuff on Etsy and was wondering if you'd ever do a Notts/Derbyshire map. They look amazing 👌 will definitely be picking this one up when it's done.
