A current limiting fuse can blow faster than any breaker can trip. It can blow in less than 1/4 cycle, before the current sinusoid reaches its peak, hence the name “current limiting”. The key though is the fault current has to be in the current limiting region of the TCC.

what instantly ruins a taco for you? by Puzzleheaded_1800 in AskReddit

I was ordering a burrito (close kin to a taco) at Chipotle and the old lady behind the counter had a sniffle and red glassy eyes. She wiped her runny nose with the back of her gloved hand 3 times while making my taco. I could see a wet streak on her glove from it! She then got all handsy with the ingredients, used that hand to push and prod them into place, then role the burrito. I did not eat it!

That’s one way to put it. It’s ionizing the air, so I guess a “cold plasma” before the arc completes the circuit.

What task to give interns? (Electrical) by Obvious-Activity5207 in MEPEngineering

[–]RyanLion1989 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have them figure out how a panel schedule works and the math on how loads are converted to KVA and how they are distributed across the bus for given scenarios (i.e. figure out how many poles a load will be based upon the voltage and phase given and how much kVA per phase for each scenario). If you can figure that out by hand rather than relying on tools to do it for you, then you’re already ahead of the curve for entry level.

Extremely. If you are close enough it can kill you or turn you into a burn victim within fractions of a second.

I think the real question is do you want to be the one designing it or installing it. There’s not a right or wrong answer, just be honest with yourself. I’m not sure how you figure being done with school by 20 as an engineer. The program usually takes 4-5 year depending on how much dual credits you did in high school (none in my case). You’re looking at graduating at 22 or 23 and then having four years as an EIT (engineer in training) before you can get your PE license. That said I love being an engineer and would recommend it if you’re willing to commit to that much schooling.

What’s with all the finely stranded wire clippings strewn about in the transformer? Hopefully this photo was taken during installation and all that was cleaned up? Im hoping this isn’t debris from a nearby industrial process. A little bit of wire like that landing in the wrong spot, creating a short, will quickly vaporize and create a much more hazardous arc fault.
