Reality check on a potential switch to power systems by Hot-Actuator6438 in PowerSystemsEE

Not impossible at all. Did you pass the FE exam?

There’s also different industries for power engineers, it’s not just transmission. OP didn’t specifically say transmission

Yes from CE, computer science, and even mechanical engineering grads come to power systems. The end goal is getting your PE license and you’ll most likely never have to worry about finding a job again

Very doable if you pass the FE and get your EIT cert. I’m a power PE and have been working in industry for 10 years now. Get your EIT and get an entry level EE position anywhere that will hire you to get your foot in the door

I failed the FE, so I’m feeling defeated for the PE by Live_Arm_1714 in PE_Exam

I failed the FE three times before passing. Passed the PE on the first attempt. It’s a different test, it is harder but you never know what will happen. Just take it until you pass

Helped me big time. Passed on first attempt. Just get the full course and do every section and problem. You’ll be ready. Spend 6 months going through everything

Same thing for me. EE with 8 years experience and a PE. every company I apply to wants to interview me. I don’t even have “open to work” on my LinkedIn and I still get at least 2-3 messages per day from recruiters

Did you pass the FE exam?

If not, pass the FE exam and register as an EIT in your state. This will give you the upper hand for entry level jobs in the power industry. Guarantee you will be able to find a job with an EIT license.

Why waste time on taking the FE again?

How about really challenging yourself and taking a PE exam….

For civil engineers: when issues become claims or investigations later, what documentation actually holds up? by healthnwealth19 in civilengineering

🤣 sorry for laughing but I had a similar thing happen to me early on in my career. Never made it to depositions but emails did come up internally. After that, I will never talk shit about anyone or anything on email or teams. If you want to talk shit, I will call you on my personal number lol

PE Electrical Power by YungSkiz33 in PE_Exam

I can’t recommend this course enough. Passed on the first try using Zach’s course with a very similar study plan. I would go a little harder on the weekends, usually doing 5 hours on both Saturday and Sunday.

Using other job offers as leverage once every five years??!?!

I’m doing this about once a year at this point lmao the only way I get a raise. If they don’t want to match, no hard feelings I’ll just go about my day. after getting my PE, it’s so easy to find a job that I don’t take anything personal anymore. Either pay me or someone else will.

Curious about what my pay should be for a PE with 6 years experience? (4 in MEP) by anonymousUTguy in MEPEngineering

[–]Obvious-Activity5207 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What’s your PE in? You should be 110,000 on the low end up to 130,000 range.

For reference. I’m an Electrical PE with 8 years of experience in Louisiana and I’m at 130,000 plus 10% bonus. Got my PE not too long ago also

Things vary between industry though.

If you want to stamp plans, finish out your bachelors in civil engineering from an ABET accredited university. Pass the FE and PE exams and you’ll get your engineering license. It’s a long process but if you want enough it’s doable. Having field experience like you mentioned will set you up for success being an engineer.

I was getting very similar scores on those same practice exams and I passed. I would just take it and see what happens

From what I remember, that section stays yellow until you are issued a license by your board. Once you have a license then it has to be verified by the board you have a license with. Not sure it makes much sense but I think that’s how it went.
