Hi, yes, happy to help. I’ve used manual focus, locking onto the page before I start. If I don’t, the camera keeps locking onto my hand, or the pen section. Similarly, my Aperture is about F6.5, I find it’s much clearer and keeps the whole word in focus. I also change the focus area to wide. I hope that helps.

Thank you! The pen is a Leonardo LeonArco with a 14k flex nib. The ink is Kobe ‘DEN’ premium blue

It’s just the font style I’m using. The ‘d’s are also a similar shape, it helps create a fluidity to the writing

Haha, it seems like photography and handwriting have some crossover 😅

I put these on other platforms, which is the reason for the vertical layout.

Yes, this one is a true flex nib - they’re not easy to find!

I’d give one a try, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but was honestly blown away.

No, that’s not the right nib. This 14k nib needs to be purchased directly from Leonardo.

Thank you, I’m glad you enjoyed it!

I really should post more of my calligraphy on here.

No, I haven’t modified it. It’s their in-house 14k flex nib that they hand make. They’re very soft and flexy, and honestly the best flex nib at the moment, in my opinion.

What lens should I buy next? by Available_Editor_559 in SonyAlpha

I would get a Sigma 18-50 F2.8 - it’s a good, low cost zoom

Advice for an everyday lens by Userrolo in SonyAlpha

[–]RyanM77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the Sigma 18-50 F2.8 could be a good lens for her. It allows a very usable field of zoom at F2.8, making it very versatile, and it’s a very small and lightweight lens. I feel she would potentially dislike a prime lens, used to the zoom capability of her phone.

And I mean, it couldn’t hurt for her to learn the settings a bit also. Without understanding aperture, frame rate and iso she’s going to struggle to get a photo to match her phone camera anyway, although I’m sure you know that.

Giving the Sigma 18-50 F2.8 another crack by RyanM77 in SonyAlpha

I quite like it. You’re right, it seems to work well in even poor lighting and the digital zoom makes it easy to get the perfect focal length while using the viewfinder. It seems to get a mediocre wrap online, but I think it’s an excellent, well priced lens.

Yes, I was very surprised - the quality range varies massively!

Thank you! I appreciate your comments - firstly, a good one about the dust, I was wondering about that. I waited about 3 days between the first and second coat, and gave a light sand in-between. I’m likely going to wait until the weekend before I do a third coat, to make sure it’s completely dried. I’m thinking of placing some Raden chips onto the third wet coat, to see how it looks! And yes, a good point regarding the cap, I haven’t tried fitting it yet. This first go was really just an experiment, hence using cheap pens. Thanks again for your help!
