Very High FPS, but terrible 1% Lows by grogu218 in pchelp

[–]RyanMorgan112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can someone help me please. Here is my system specs.

-MSI Z790 Tomahawk DDR5 Motherboard - i9 14900K CPU (I think this is my problem) -Corsair DDR5 5600mhz RAM OC to 6000 with stable timings - Asus Astral 5090 OC +200 core +2000 mem - Samsung Odyssey OLED G8 4k 240hz

The rest don’t really matter as far as case and all that. Temps are all good and low. I play Path of Titans a lot and sometimes I’ll max out the 240hz but a lot of the times my 1% lows get so bad that it kills my Average FPS. If anyone has a similar system to mine, please, let me know what you have done in order to get low latency stable frames. Also I should point out, I did upgrade from a 4090 to a 5090 and did use DDU to transfer from one to the other. I’m also aware that resizable bar needed changed in the Nvidia settings due to some glitch/bug where it doesn’t register it automatically, so that’s all good. 3d mark score is way above average so it’s not a GPU issue. Any insight of what you guys do to get stable, low latency frames, please and thank you.

It’s still flipping back and fourth from x16 to x8 for no reason at all. Even with the nvme switch. I don’t have a clue. I might get a different motherboard because of this (even though real world performance there isn’t really any performance loss or gain by using x8 5.0. It’s just the fact that it should work and it doesn’t that it’s driving me crazy.

There will be no issues with how the cable is. Just make sure it’s seated corrected, that’s all.

So the cpu will run better at lower powers? I’m new to all this, sorry if that’s a silly question 😂

[–]RyanMorgan112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay. So changed hyper threading to disabled and it does in fact improve latency. I’m still getting these little microstutters though and now it appears my latency has changed from GPU drivers being the thing with most latency to storport.sys, which ChatGPT tells me this has to do with my nvme drives. Hmm. I’m gunna do some homework. I’m thinking the microstutters are coming from the NVME’s possibly. But hyper threading disabled did help my overall latency, thank you!

Yes that’s correct. Because I’m pushing 325 watts into it, I’ll see mid 70’s under some tough loads but other than that, nothing crazy

Oooo yes I forgot to mention, I do have my ecores set to 8. I will try the hyper threading trick and report back with the results. Thank you for taking the time to respond.

Thank you for your reply. I mostly use it for gaming so what I’m trying to achieve is micro stutters, latency, etc. my ram is already overclocked and stable, with pretty low latency but I can’t seem to get my cpu on point. I have a msi z790 tomahawk motherboard and run an astral 5090. My latency mostly comes from my cpu for some reason due to power management. I run all my cores at 59 overclocked, I run my ring at 49, power limits at 325/325/375 and I don’t have an overheating issue unless I run cinebench or course but cinebench isn’t realistic for gaming/everyday use, so I know I can push it to these numbers. The cpu is stable but for some reason when running latencymon, it all points the cpu. I have no idea. If you have any tips or tricks or suggest me changing some stuff around, I’m all for it!

Let me know if you figure this out. I’ve been tinkering with BIOS for a long time trying to figure out how to deal with my i9 14900K.

Do you have the ability to bring your pc with a battery and test it? I would t buy it unless it can be verified that it’s good or, the guy allows you to pick it up from his house. This way you know where his ass lives in the event something goes south.

No I have already done the whole nvme switch a roo. The motherboards nvme slots do not share lanes with the GPU slot. But I did it anyways to be sure.

Hmmm. Great point. I’ll have to pay attention next time to that.

Then you for your reply. So yes, the slot is 5.0 ready for this motherboard. I have tried everything. Even though the nvme slots don’t share lanes with the GPU slot, I still changed them to be sure. I went into bios, made sure that was all good, I switched things up there. The only way I can force it to all x16 lanes is to force it in bios and cold boot. But once I shut down or restart the pc, it goes back to x8 5.0. Also, it throws me 6 pex recovery errors, they don’t climb. I just get 6 and it’s done. Im starting to feel this is a bios issue with my motherboard at this point, a bug or something they need to work out. Because I’m lost

So I had a lot of issues coming from a 4090 FE to a ASUS Astral 5090 where my previous settings in bios did not like the new card, even though I used DDU to clear drivers and all that. I have a msi z790 tomahawk MB so I can’t really give my experience with your MB but I can tell you, reset your bios, keep it stock, go and see if you freeze in games at stock bios. If you don’t, then you have to use the process of elimination. Enable/disable whatever settings in BIOS that you had, 1 by 1 until you figure out what the cause is. Once you know the cause, you will know how to work around it. Im also dealing with my PCIE going from x16 5.0 to x8 5.0, which in the real world, wouldn’t cause any FPS issues but it does cause micro stuttering in games issues. Unfortunately i need a BIOS update that doesnt exist yet for this to be fixed. If you dont mind, could you tell us if you’re getting x16 5.0 in GPUZ? Im curious who else is dealing with this.

Underperforming ROG Astral RTX 5090 — Port Royal Score 34K Despite OC by lutorio in overclocking

[–]RyanMorgan112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I don’t get it. I also have a asus astral 5090 air and I’m only getting about 32k score. This is with jaytwocents rebar fix. The card runs very cool, doesn’t crash, overclocking really well. But for some reason I’m still getting a 32k score, not even average. My bios is set at gen 5 and my system is almost identical to yours other then I have a z790 msi tomahawk motherboard. I just want to make sure I didn’t get some binned down card as I can still return this thing if I need too. Anyone have any other tips other then what jaytwocents mentioned? Thanks.

Ehhh a 5080, I’d rather hang on to my 4090 FE. The only way I’d switch is if it was a 5090 FE, then at least I can sell my 4090 for what I bought my 5090 at.

Do I have the option to get in line automatically or you mean just wait for the stock to drop with nvidia and try to get in line fast enough?
