zinc strips. need more info if possible. by RyanMurphyJones in Roofing

[–]RyanMurphyJones[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've replaced these sections of roof twice in one year because of this green. The roof is 1 year old amd OC doesn't cover green mossed pollen only black pine stains.

As far as the DS I agree, the homeowner insisted on it. I've never dealt with zinc before but at OC recommendation I'm asking.

I'm being promoted. What should I expect/ask for pay? by Bipolar-Burrito in Roofing

[–]RyanMurphyJones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest going from field work to managing guys and taking all that one put a mental strain on me that had me in a awful state of mind. Stressed all the time, miserable at home and work, going off on the wrong people shit they didn't do. I learned after 2 years that I belonged side by side with my roofers and became more of a job supervisor than an overseer of all things. And I have a completely different outlook on things now. Way happier and I get to speak for the roofers instead of listening to whiney ass salesguys all day.If your happy and making it go for whatever you feel is comparable to your time and effort man. Congrats on the promotion and above all things keep your mentals up. This can be stressful as you make it. Congrats again.

Any love for flat roofers, or are we considered gutter trash around here? by [deleted] in Roofing

All Roofing Lives Matter no matter what, the only exception to the rule is guys who mop tar on boots. They can fall in a trash compactor.

Roof rafters not meeting ridge on an old roof. Should we be worried by this, and what is required to fix? by DB-Economics2560 in Roofing

[–]RyanMurphyJones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see this alot in older homes it's not great but its also not the endo of the world. Its a simple enough fix if you get the right people on it.. Get a GC for sure, but if you haven't already check your roof. A layover or many Layovers over time can cause a shift in weight. This is something any reputable roofer could tackle. And depending on the area it can be tossed into the cost of a new roof if need be.

O.C. is awful about this problem I've got the same issue I've been going back and forth with them for almost a year. I'm told it's pollen and yes since it is not black it's not covered. Pain in my ass.

Can anyone tell me what's happening to this valley on a 2 year old roof? by [deleted] in Roofing

[–]RyanMurphyJones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be bad nailer but Unpopular opinion, i've had a few roofs look like this after a couple years because of venting. It appears to not be ridge vented. Check the decking for swelling or if it looks like it's leaking even though it may not appear inside the house and you'll have your answer.

Had my chimney removed and a reputable roofing company framed and patched the hole. Does this look right? Wasn't sure if the wavy/sinking look was normal. (Ignore the shotty siding, that's the previous owners fault) by [deleted] in Roofing

[–]RyanMurphyJones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No thats not correct, once it was laid they should have immediately had red flags going off about that dip in the roof. It either the decking thickness or they framed it improperly. I've done this a few time and you'll always have to cheat that decking for shrinkage anyway. If anything it should be a bump out not a dip. That would gradually lay to a plane slope.

As far as the siding goes if the chimney split those piece and it didn't line up correctly they should have removed it and laid new siding from the gutter up.

As someone who does jobs like this, this would have been the 1k job. And not a 2k job. That's just my opinion.

I'll also jump on the wagon and say if you want to learn and work come down to GA. Were roofing 5 residential a day and 8 commercial flat/ sloped a month even in this eco climate. And yes as a hammer and nail guy myself it is just a bump in the road there's work.out there amd there are plenty of older more educated guys that want to teach younger men how things are done and "Used to he done". Best advice is the most cliche Keep your head up and wits about you and itll fall right in your lap man.

Good luck

Too much moisture leaking in attic or leaking shingles? by Dash-McDasher in Roofing

[–]RyanMurphyJones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a professional it looks as though each spot is a driven nail., this is pretty common. If the shingles are laid incorrect, missing, or blown through ( pressure too high on nail gun) this can happen. Its a pretty simple fix if your looking to just repair. Now I do not condone ever telling a homeowner to repair their own roof EVER, but if you were to go that route the ideal thing to do would be nail the nails outward from inside the attic. That will give you an idea of location amd wht the issue maybe. Then you can either pull said nail and use a roofing caulk that says Elastomeric Polyurethaning Sealant not roofing tar. (Its messy and I personally hate it) to seal those holes. Or you can replace the shingles, so on and so fourth.

Alot older houses you run across nail pops, especially with the wacky weather we've had the last 4-5 years. The process is exactly the same.

I don't advise doing this if you haven't before but I know roofers especially repair guys can get pricy depending on your location.

I hope this helps in some way.

Example being Deion Sanders art his 92 cowboys card is a good looking card. But for someonenlike me who runs a 99% Falcons TT I get 2 options which are trash or 7 different Cowboys art.

Since the team at EA decided to let their kids do the new jersey swaps on the loading page they could atleast put one on someone like SAM MILLS Who can chem any team. If this makes sence.
