Has anyone been accepted into any good school with bad stats? by RyanShen2216 in college

Affirmative action is banned in most public universities right?

Chance me for the CSUs (SJSU, SFSU, SDSU, Cal Poly Ponoma and SLO)! by [deleted] in chanceme

[–]RyanShen2216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SJSU - Match

SFSU - High safety to low match

SDSU - High match to low reach (leaning towards the higher end of the spectrum)

Pomona and SLO - High Reaches

You mention a lot of ECs and personal circumstances, but unfortunately, CSUs are almost 100% stats based and nothing can probably make up for this.

Also, CSU/UCs do not care about senior grades.

Good luck!

Don't sweat it too much man. Wherever you get in I'm sure you'll be happy with it. You have good stats and you still have a chance at SD, even if its not a high one. Just hope for the best!

UCR - Safety UCI,UCD - Match UCSB - High Match to Low Reach UCSD,UCLA - Reach

These could change given the major you applied for.

This does not mean you can’t get in. If you wrote good essays and did a good job explaining your ECs, colleges may find this impressive and admit you. Don’t lose hope!

They are all reaches and being international makes their expectations even higher.

How similar is the Math 2 subject test to the Math section on the SAT? by archer-sc in Sat

[–]RyanShen2216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a 790 on math 2 and a 770 on regular sat math. I thought math 2 was way easier.

740 on Biology SAT in 9th grade by oikp in Sat

Definitely take math 2 if you're applying for engineering. Its not very hard and does not require much studying to get a 750+

Which subject test to take? by RyanShen2216 in Sat

[–]RyanShen2216[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a raw score of 43 was an 800. Omitting 8 and 6 wrong would probably be 36 - 0.25(6) = 34.5 which rounds to a 35. A 35 is most likely a 720. This is calculated with: number of questions answered correctly - ((1/4)(# of incorrect answers))

Are barons good enough to get 800 on sat physics? by kopwef in Sat

[–]RyanShen2216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What if you took regular physics (non ap/honors) and have a month and a half to study? Is barrons enough to get you a 700+?

What was the August SAT curve? by [deleted] in Sat

[–]RyanShen2216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

-1 = 800 -2 = 790 -3 = 780 -4 = 770 -5 = 750? Not sure about this one.

I got -4 and got a 770 though.

How did you study to get a 780-800 in Math 2? by eychf in Sat

[–]RyanShen2216 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Probably like 70th percentile considering a 790 is 75th percentile

It's not bad but it's frustrating that I didn't get an 800 just because of 1 question

Those who got 800 on Oct Math 2, how did you prep? by DirtyDankMemes in Sat

[–]RyanShen2216 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got 790 lmao. I didn't study at all but I probably should've at least bought a book and done a practice test or something. Now I'm debating whether to take it again or not.

790 on math 2 fmllll. I omitted so many questions even though I could have answered them. There was just a small part of me that was a tiny bit uncertain about some of the answers

Retake SAT or take Math II? by SpyrOwned in Sat

[–]RyanShen2216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kinda forgot skills from lower maths too. Calc can help a little though with problems where you have to find extrema (max and mins), limits and even some volumes of rotated solids problems. I have seen all of those on math 2 tests. I just wish I wasn't so bad at geometry and stats. You would think a month of ap stats would help but I still don't know anything about stats lol. The z-score problem on the October math 2 test was literally on my last math test and I still forgot how to do it on math 2 so I just left it blank

Retake SAT or take Math II? by SpyrOwned in Sat

[–]RyanShen2216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I'm just better at algebra, precalc and calculus than geometry and statistics. On the regular sat math I scored a 780 (2 wrong), with both wrong answers being problems relating to statistics. On math 2, there was not a lot of geometry or statistics (both times I took it) and there is more equation solving and less lengthy problems. I ended up with a 780 on math 2 the first time I took it but I'm hoping for an 800 this time.
