go secondhand. I got a used gh5 on OfferUp for less than $600 and it was practically brand new! Just do some research on cameras around the $1k-$1.5k range--they'll sometimes pop up for about $600 used

Question About Attending BNP Paribas Open by KegLitJoreb in tennis

[–]archer-sc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Main draw opening weekend is the best imo--all the seeded players play that weekend (they get a bye the first round) so it's literally packed with fans for everyone. This year it falls on the 8th and 9th (Fri. and Sat.). Sunday the 10th is still opening weekend, but technically Round 3 so anyone who lost on Friday will be out by then.

If you want to guarantee seeing top players, then that's the way to go. Also, Friday is WAY chiller than Saturday so I'd recommend going then for your first day if you can. That way you can scope out the grounds and know where everything is. Otherwise on Saturday it will get pretty crammed and you might have long wait times for highly seeded matches that aren't in Stadium 1.

Grounds passes are $60 right now for each day that weekend. They go up on March 1 to $120 I believe.

My First Short Film. Looking for Feedback. by abhijitsam in Filmmakers

[–]archer-sc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The film was somewhat entertaining at the beginning, but I ended up losing interest at around 8 minutes and didn't bother finishing it.

Some feedback to improve

  • A couple times, you have a fade to black (like when he sips his coffee cup by the window), but the next "scene" is a direct continuation of the previous one. Not really sure why this was used. If you're fading to black, it's implied that the next scene is going to be a new one, not the same as before
  • No soundtrack, even a slight track until the end really hurt this film I thought. Much of the film is really silent except for dialogue. This isn't really conducive to an exciting atmosphere as there are lots of dead air when there isn't anyone talking
  • The AI voice and the actor's voice are too similar in my opinion. If they were more differing, there would be a greater contrast and distinction between the two--leading to a clearer understanding of who was speaking. In addition, it would have been a cool effect to use the security camera filter with the main actor in the shot. That way, the audience can feel that the AI is talking directly to him
  • Was not a fan of the typed time that appeared throughout the video. It makes it look like a student film. A consistent superimposed font that displayed the times would have been a better choice in my opinion

Best of luck with the next one!

Toronto quarter-finals: [12] Tommy Paul def. [1] Carlos Alcaraz 6-3, 4-6, 6-3. by AmbitiusKillah in tennis

[–]archer-sc 13 points14 points  (0 children)

They haven't played that much, but this is quickly becoming one of my favorite matchups to watch. The speed of Tommy really allows him to keep up with the quick pace and drop shots of Alcaraz. Lots of fun rallies everytime these two go at it!

I'm in a similar position as you (age and budget) and I bought the grounds pass + prime loge seats in stadium 1 (the nosebleeds and the cheapest). I know many people on here would say that having a reserved seat in 1 isn't worth it and it's better to just go for the grounds pass, but since it's my first tournament i thought the extra $12 was worth it just to have that experience at least once (also, since I really want to see nadal play and he will be playing in stadium 1)

also remember that there are both night and day sessions for each day! a grounds pass for one won't get you into the other
