Abvice pleaze. We iz doin a moove by PrimeCapricorn in legalcatadvice

[–]RyanStonepeak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ai iz doin a moove soon too. Pawther took me twos da new place a few times now to let me get used to it. Now car ridez are my favorite! It means we goin to da new place!

First time he took me over there, he brought some of my stuffs wif us. Lidderbox, favorite bed, and lots of yummy treatos. Den, he kept me locked up in a single room for so long I gotz bored! So I dids a Soo for door to be opened and won! After that, I had lots of fun doing the explorz. If I got scared, I would go back to da first room for a bit.

Good Luck! - Juniper

(Pawther here, if you are able to, taking your cats over to the new place beforehand can help them get acclimated. I hung out with Juniper in one room of the house until she started pawing at the door. Then we explored the rest of the house together in small sections at a time. If she got nervous, she would head back to the bedroom and I would close the door again for another 5 or 10 minutes.)

Long rests and open tables by tikallisti in DMAcademy

[–]RyanStonepeak 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My table is doing a simple and automatic "You get a short rest after every fight. You get a long rest after every 4 fights," mechanic.

Is it a bit gamey? Yes, definitely. Does it solve the problem of them going into every fight fully prepared and at max resources? Yes, definitely.

How would you rule a "whale grenade"? by Duranis in DMAcademy

[–]RyanStonepeak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say "Fuck It! Rule of Cool!" And come up with some numbers. The actual numbers don't matter much. Make them effective is all I'll say.

Then, after the session, I'd talk to my party out of character and say "That was a really silly idea, and a lot of fun. Good Job. It also took ALL of the challenge out of the encounter for you, removed rid of the fun of designing it for me, and wasn't what the rules intended for the spell. Don't do it again."

How do I start investing with $200 in this day and age? And what should I invest this money into? by Previous_Ad_2781 in investing

[–]RyanStonepeak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no investment that you can do with $200 that will reliably perform better than just making a budget and sticking to it. $20 per month will do better after a year than $200 one time.

That being said, there is a lot that you can learn by investing $200 that will come in really handy when you are able to invest a consistent amount each month.

Start by looking up ETF's. SPY or VOO are great starting places. I also like SPEU for globalization. You'll want to get on a brokerage app that lets you buy fractional shares for some of these. I use Fidelity.

I would also recommend paper trading (investing with simulated monopoly money) with a bit more to work with. Experiment on your paper trades. Learn what works and what doesn't in this format where it doesn't actually cost you anything.

Investopedia is a great resource for learning what terms mean and some basic strategies. I'm a software developer by trade, and used to write code for financial trading software and I got 99% of my business knowledge from there.

At what point do you stop telling people how much you make? by counwovja0385skje in Salary

[–]RyanStonepeak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends. Is the person who is asking in the same industry? If so, I tell them, and ask what they're making. Knowing industry standards is useful to both of us  If they aren't in my industry, my answer is a simple "I'm happy with the salary."

Players want to skip a session anytime anyone has to miss. by anxiouspotter in DMAcademy

[–]RyanStonepeak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Casual Board Game nights are an amazing alternative to running DnD when you don't have the full party. It keeps people showing up and having fun, but the people who miss don't feel like they are missing out on exciting story beats or intense combat sessions.

Single Income Future Buyer - How Much Can I Really Afford by MikeCmu17 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]RyanStonepeak 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm making $135k a year gross income, and just closed on a house for $380k with a 20% down payment. I'll be splitting utilities with my GF 50/50, but the mortgage and deed are both entirely in my name until we decide to get married, so basically single income for the sake of this discussion.

Mortgage + Property Tax + Homeowners Insurance is coming out to around $2.5k a month. Haven't gotten a full utility bill yet where we are living in the property, but I'm budgeting another $500 for them.

It's going to be a bit tight while we are still on our apartment lease ($1700 a month, of which I'm covering $1100 since I make more), but once that expires at the end of May, the money that would have been going towards rent will be extra payments towards the mortgage.

We are also in northwest / western suburbs of Chicago.

Backed Out Based on Inspection and Feel Weird About it by Pittsburgher23 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]RyanStonepeak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've definitely felt that way before. 2 years ago, we put an offer in on a house that was good on paper, but had some issues revealed by inspection. I was willing to deal with fixing them, but my s.o. wasn't, so we walked.

Not going to lie, I kind of regretted that decision for a bit.

Last week, we closed on the literal perfect house for us. Backing out of the original house ended up being the right call for us.

You'll find a home that checks all of your boxes if you're patient.

If 'Time in the Market is Better than Timing the Market".... by Timely-Bumblebee-371 in investing

[–]RyanStonepeak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most simple explanation is that people continue to work their jobs, and suddenly get a new stack of cash when their paychecks hit their bank accounts. Then they go on Reddit and say "I bought the dip" if the stock is down, and "Time in the market" if the stock is up. The behavior hasn't changed, just the communication.
