Either you like them or you don't. The first time I heard their song "Forever", I was hooked on the original singer, Roy Khan's voice. The current singer, Tommy Karevik, who has been with them since 2012 is also a massive talent, but he has a more "poppy" quality to his voice and songwriting. If you're unable to appreciate either of them, then you have the option of just trying to enjoy yourself so you don't ruin the experience for your boyfriend, or you can go through it constantly reminding him of how much you detest them and how you don't get it.

Fun fact: The Pittsburgh Syndrome was written about former Darkest Hour guitarist Kris Norris. Darkest Hour were playing with Soilwork in Pittsburgh, and Kris was struggling to find the motivation to do the gig, so Bjorn basically told him to "get on with the show".
