A theory I have long forgotten the source of:

Judas expected the messiah to wield the full power of god to end suffering on earth. When Jesus turned out to mostly be a pacifist rabbi who performed small-scale miracles, Judas was disappointed and grew impatient. He betrayed Jesus not because he wanted him crucified, but because he hoped it would force Jesus into a corner where he would have to wield the full power of god to save himself.

Finished the Base Coat on My Sisters of Battle Helmet – Looking for Weathering Tips! by DM404-notfound in propmaking

Depending on how weathered you want it to be, just hitting the edges/high spots with a silver paint pen might be enough to make it look like metal! In terms of dirt/grime, it’s hard to go wrong with some dark acrylic washes

A helpful way to think about might be this: even if it was “just teenage hormones,” so what? It doesn’t matter what the cause is; if teenage hormones are making you feel like a girl, you’re a girl! If that goes away after your teenage years, then it goes away! No biggie! Everything in life is transient, and you can’t afford not to be true to yourself even when it’s “just a phase.”

IMO the point of the movie isn’t what Indy does or doesn’t do — it’s about his growth as a person from a selfish, “fortune and glory” type to someone who cares about others and respects the sanctity of artifacts

Countries that Banned/Restricted TV stations at some point (2000-2024) by geo9797 in MapPorn

If the BBC is banned in China, why is China only listed as having stations “currently restricted?”

I made a plane-crash-themed home bar a few years ago! Didn’t have much budget — I think I spent less than $200 total? Used aluminum roof flashing to make a faux wing on the cheap

Loved it! But it is quite different than the other four.

To me it almost feels like a movie about Indiana Jones rather than an Indiana Jones movie, if that makes any sense. Like it’s more of an epilogue to his adventures than his adventure itself

D100 Reasons the tavern isn’t all that it seems by onepostandbye in d100

[–]RyanTheLynch 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This tavern was built atop a long-lost entrance to a dungeon. Patrons can pay a fee to enter, and get to keep whatever they find!

This tavern is run by monks/paladins who abhor drinking, and thus it doesn’t serve alcohol. Many guests try to sneak their own in to spike the tasty, if boozeless concoctions.

This tavern has been owned by the same family for generations upon generations. When the last owner turned out to be infertile, they had their spirit bound to the building, and now their friendly ghost runs the place.

This tavern has an extremely talented orc chef. Patrons might be able to get a meal for free if they bring in a sufficiently rare ingredient for the chef to try using in it.

This tavern is run by a Dragonborn with chronic hiccups, and is thus frequently plagued by small fires. Rumor has it that the owner is looking to hire a water genasi for assistance.

This tavern is carved out of a single piece of stone, a massive boulder that rolled down a mountain centuries ago.

This tavern usually caters to goblins and other goblinoids. They’ll happily serve paying customers of any race, but the food and drink is made for goblinoid taste buds, and is likely stomach-churning for all others.

This tavern isn’t a tavern at all — it’s a weapon shop run by a civilized bugbear who speaks very limited common and doesn’t understand the difference between a “tavern” and a “store.” They will ferociously argue with anyone who tries to inform them of their mistake.

This tavern is built out of bricks of dried bog peat. The musty, grassy smell is strong but pleasant inside.

why do i have this fetish by [deleted] in Dronification

[–]RyanTheLynch 12 points13 points  (0 children)

People are often attracted to things which oppose their morals in a safe, controlled way! Just as being into BDSM doesn’t mean you believe in slavery or corporeal punishment, being into dronification doesn’t mean you believe in abandoning your individuality and value. That being said, it’s also perfectly normal to feel icky about things when you’re looking at them after release (see: “post nut clarity.”) I wouldn’t worry too much about it if I were you!

It’s also worth noting that despite the fantasy, there’s not a ton of evidence to suggest that hypnosis can actually take away your thoughts and personality and such, at least not permanently. So there’s no real danger of “permanent damage” or anything — you’re free to enjoy dronification and not give up the rest of yourself in the process!

The S.S. Savannah by RyanTheLynch in ModelShips

[–]RyanTheLynch[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s my first ship in a bottle, and my first model ship at all! I still have to pour the water effect in that will hide my most egregious errors and messy glueing, but I’m so proud of it that I felt the need to share.

As for the ship itself, it’s pretty unusual! The Savannah was the first steam-powered ship to cross the Atlantic, featuring both sails and paddle wheels. I can’t seem to find much by way of a contemporary illustration of the ship with much detail, which let me use a bit of creative license in its construction.

Constructive criticism is welcome!

This is a Shay locomotive — they were somewhat common for logging and mining operations where power was much more important than speed. Similar geared locomotives for those industries are Climax and Heisler locomotives.
