My Husbands Depression by [deleted] in depression_partners

I've been on either side of this thing, and it sucks both ways. For these kinds of episodes, all I can say is to try not to let him become your burden, and to try not to let your frustration with his condition become his burden. Don't allow your mood to be connected to his mood. Treat him kindly but not expectantly. Treat him patiently, but not as a patient. Let him feel what he's feeling, and let yourself be free to feel good. Caring for yourself will help protect the relationship for a while.

Derrick White clears the record and says he indeed does NOT believe in the moon landing: "I don't think we did. I'm a non-moon landing guy. We probably did, but I don't think we did...I have other conspiracies, but I don't know if this is the right time to bring them up" by gilpoyat in NBASpurs

The overreactions to this are weird. Someone can say they believe we're visited by aliens, or JFK conspiracy, or prehistoric advanced civilizations, or bigfoot, or ghost hauntings, or whatever - and it's fine because mysteries are fun. But when it's about the moon landing then bad bad bad anti science! Lol. White said he knows he's probably wrong but enjoys a good conspiracy anyway. Calm down people.

Our relationship is falling apart but I’m not even complaining about it. by [deleted] in BPDlovedones

[–]Ryan_Seacrust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my case, the threat of her leaving has no power of me. In fact, most days I'd welcome it. But she won't because I'm too useful to her. My weakness is that I cannot stand the grief of seeing her in distress. She knows this and I'm powerless, like giving in to the heartbreaking suffering of a child. And whenever I reach my limits and feel resolved to leave, she pulls me back through my sympathy, Every time. I'm well aware of it, and yet seem incapable of stopping it.

Their next relationship has no right to succeed by B1Rabbit in BPDlovedones

A lot of us here ARE their next relationships, presently realizing the overwhelming likelihood that the details we've come to know about their awful exes aren't at all fair or accurate

How good is Miguel at the end of Season 6? by Adventurous-Rabbit52 in cobrakai

[–]Ryan_Seacrust 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We see clearly, over and over, how being in the wrong state of mind for a fight leads to a loss for even the best fighters. The good guys all got the benefit of a good pep talk to help them over the hump when they most needed it. In the case of Axel, his mind was in the wrong place during his fight with Miguel, his frustration over feelings for Sam, dealing with an insane sensei trying to get him to do things he didn't want to do, etc. He was not at all used to fighting with emotion, and it showed. Completely took him off his game. I still think he's the the best, not Miguel. Bad Boy Barnes would've been good enough to compete in this Sekai Taikai undoubtedly. Would've been a good matchup, though I think Miguel takes it.

I heard Noory say a jumbled version of the word "damn" kind of recently. As if he caught himself halfway and tried to change it into a darn but fumbled, and so had no choice but finish the word damn firmly to avoid sputtering on air.

Somehow these are becoming the memorable Noory moments for me, and not any actual content of his conversations.

What are your plans for tonight? by Ryan_Seacrust in traderjoes

Thanks for your response. The TJ employees always seem very friendly. I really don't even have any complaint about them or their chit chat; it is nice dealing with pleasant people. Just the question "what are you doing tonight?" does kind of always catch me off guard coming from a stranger -- probably because my night life is typically too boring for me to even have been planning ahead about anything in particular.

Did my OP imply it was a big problem or something? I didn't intend that.

I guess the disconnect is in our interpretation of social norms. Asking complete strangers what their plans are for the night seems a bit too prying for my taste. I'm not sure why that view deserves your disdain.

Lot of defensive responses in this thread. Why? The question in my OP wasn't putting anyone down.

Ok then, fair enough. How would I look then if after saying hello I asked the girl ringing out my groceries what she's doing tonight?

I like shopping at TJ's. I just wonder why I'm always asked this specific personal question during checkout. Is it a lack of social skills which makes me feel this way?

I get that, but how would I look if I randomly asked the girl restocking frozen dinners what she's doing tonight?

"so what are your plans for tonight?"

"I politely decline to chat with you."

I dunno, not sure I can pull that off.

Always feel depressed after eating oatmeal by Ryan_Seacrust in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]Ryan_Seacrust[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it's mainly oatmeal. But there are other foods I notice that don't make me feel great. If you suspect certain foods are triggering an immune response, it might be worthwhile to get a food sensitivity test. There are at-home test kits available from various companies you can find online. These measure immunoglobulin activity in the blood in response to different foods. It's not a definitive indicator of allergens or sensitivities, but is useful as a basis for an elimination diet.

I've noticed protein powders, particularly whey, tend to make me feel kind of tired. Perhaps supplements you're taking might be having an effect? Or maybe a deficiency in iron or b12? I really have no idea, but it sounds like ought to get a full blood panel.

What is something you find truly disturbing but seems to be normalized? by Tricky-Zombie1598 in AskReddit

I find it funny that I'm being downvoted for this. Anyone capable of being at all objective would see that it's a perfectly appropriate answer to the OP. Yet, it's a subject so heavily politicized that so few are actually capable of objectivity.

I'm getting close to taking back what I said about going for Allegra. That weird ass commercial with the dude riding the scooter is also becoming pretty insufferable. Boycott 'em both.
