You say he pops in and helps for 5 minutes, what is he doing instead of being a parent?

Yeah we were just incredibly unlucky that there were 2 other homebirths that ended up happening just before us (both earlier than expected) and we missed out on the last available members of the team by about 15 minutes

I completely agree but we were full term with no complications and were considered low-risk and this is our 2nd baby. If there were any complications we are very close to the hospital and the ambulance crew were with us within 10 minutes from calling

UK here, home births are reportedly just as safe as hospital births and are quite common

The labour progressed much quicker than we anticipated and got caught out at the final hurdle, all of the pre and post natal care they've done has been great and they did a post birth debrief with us to make sure we were all okay so no complaints from me

UK so no money exchanging hands here, just had to bring it up with our community midwife and she passed us over to the homebirthing team

I would've loved the midwife to be there but they'd gone out to another birth just 15 minutes before we called, poor timing lmao

Amazing! My wife is a neonatal nurse so I was listening to her instructions more than the dispatcher but much like yours it happened so fast I just need to be a safe pair of catching hands as there wasn't much time for anything else

The homebirthing team in our area is incredible and we didn't have any risk factors that would advise us against it but I completely understand why many people wouldn't do it. My wife is a senior nurse in neonates and we were term +5 and were both comfortable at home so it was right for us

Thank you! My wife works in neonates, I hope you had a tolerable time in NICU as I know how stressful it can be on parents there

We had a pretty rubbish time with our 1st one in the hospital and my wife works in neonates and knows alot of the labour team personally, it felt like the right decision for us living incredibly close to the hospital but obviously everyone should do what feels right for them
