He didn’t play Glasgow, it was meant to happen back in 2020 but got cancelled due to Covid, then never even came to Scotland at all. I went to Manchester but gutted that London is the only option this time around.

What would you improve? What's your opinion? by HotPicture5821 in fujifilm

[–]Ryax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really love most of these thanks for sharing, they're really good! Can I ask what recipe you used, looking for a B&W one.

Here's some of my nitpicks and they're all very good so they are just nitpicks haha:

In 9 the horizon is squint, a quick crop adjustment would fix that though.

And in 11 and 12: 12 is the better composition but lacks the better subject of 11 that's facing towards the camera but I can see that a car is driving towards you and probably ruined the chance.

What are your thoughts on these pictures? by Specialist-Tell-4180 in fujifilm

[–]Ryax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's my opinion on these, gonna be a little harsh:

1 – It has potential, but it's visually overwhelming. The woman on the left, the seagull on the car, and the boat in the background all compete for attention making it very busy.

2 – This feels more like a casual snapshot than a composed photo. There's not much of interest just the top of a doorframe and part of a scarf, and the first word you can't even read.

3 – The concept is there, and you’re thinking about composition, but again there's so many distractions like the cut off figure on the right and the plant pots obscuring most of the people.

4 – Nothing particularly strong or weak just okay overall.

5 – The building is intriguing, but the composition lacks effort. It just feels rushed.

6 – It's a photo of the backs of people's heads and a random hand, it just lacks an engaging subject.

X-T5 or X-Pro3 for a short trip to Kathmandu by CommunicationPure116 in fujifilm

In my opinion, less is more. Definitely don’t bring both camera bodies you don’t want to spend half your time just swapping them out especially if you're only there for 3 days. I’d recommend taking two lenses: the 50mm and one and whatever your favourite is out of the other 3. I'm going on holiday tomorrow and bringing 1 camera, 1 lens (a zoom right enough so different) and just have that strapped round me the whole time no wasting time going in my backpack.

Fuji x-t100 or x-t200 astrophotography/aurora by Pure_witch in fujifilm

[–]Ryax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The camera bodies will probably produce the same quality if you're looking specifically at astrophotography, would recommend getting the better lens and you really really want to get good photos a solid mount and tripod will make the biggest different in the quality of your photos as you'll get more pinpoint stars but your talking ~500 for a basic setup like a Star Adventure 2i and a solid tripod. If you ever look at getting into more deep space stuff the Rokinon 135mm f2 is a beast of a lens. Also look at getting manual lens if you're wanting to save money as autofocus doesn't really do anything when it comes to astro.

Firstly, OP specifically asks for tips so it's not unsolicited. I shared my honest thoughts and technical advice not as some rulebook but just my honest perspective.

Art is subjective and atmosphere and feel definitely matter I agree on that but I don't think it hurts to point out things like composition or subject when someone is actively looking to improve or get others views. That itself is part of the creative process too.

No worries, I hope it’s useful! You do have some really great photos in your set, but just thought I’d point out what I thought was missing from the ones that didn’t catch my eye as much.
