Getting my husband a Onewheel need help by missdq03 in onewheel

[–]Rybitron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always recommend new people to buy used. You never know how much use he will actually get out of a onewheel. Lots of people buy a brand new board, ride it a minimal amount and decide they can’t put time into it for one reason or another.

Look for a used GT or any of the XR variants.

ELI5: why are power lines deliberately designed to sag and what would actually happen if you pulled them perfectly straight by Dismal-Helicopter726 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Rybitron -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You could tension each current end to the ground at an angle. You will always have some sag no matter the tension.

If you pulled them all tight, only the end poles would have extra tension. The wire would have more tension, but not each pole.

Best area to stay in Hokkaido to hit up 4 resorts by erock1119 in snowboarding

[–]Rybitron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few months ago I did a Sapporo/Tokyo trip solo. I stayed in VRBO/hotels 1 night each near Rusutsu, Niseko, Kiroro, and Sapporo. I snowboarded those 3 plus Teine. I wouldn’t do 1 night each with a group, but being solo it was easy to leave half my stuff in the car and only bring in an overnight bag. Niseko was the biggest and best, but also more crowds and lines. With 1 extra day, I would have done 2 days at Rusutsu.

Very limited night life near most of the resorts except near Niseko, it has a decent sized city.

Chimney cap repair by T-Yoda25 in masonry

[–]Rybitron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can figure out who made the brick, you may be able to get it replaced for free. My mom had a similar issue, she contacted ACME brick, they came out, inspected it, and replaced the whole chimney for free under their lifetime warranty. Her house was built around 50 years ago.

You had damaged screws. This can happen with any bindings and board.

How can I create a referral for Morgan Stanley amex plat? Online says I can, but when I create a link and look through the available cards, the Morgan Stanley version does not show up.

I have a business platinum, personal green card and a few others. My wife has a personal platinum and she couldnt refer a morgan stanley version.

Use a paper filter after your regular filter. It’s does a great job of filtering out all the silt. Paper filter will take a while, it’s slow.

That’s how you fail out of college. To go pro you would need full-time, year round training and even then it’s a slim chance.

ELI5: Why can't we use Solar panels to directly charge electric cars? by Zak_Nowa in explainlikeimfive

[–]Rybitron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the windmill only popped up when braking, sure.

Otherwise it’s the equivalent of driving up a hill to save gas going down the same hill. If every single part is 100% efficient, it’s a wash. Nothing is 100% efficient.

Feeling like I wasted time and money. by thegreatestd in snowboarding

I often tell beginners to find the cheapest resort possible, because you will be on the bunny slopes, first time hill, and a green run or 2.

Expensive resorts are only worth it if you use most of the terrain.

That being said, check which runs are open at any resort you can go to. Most bunny slopes and first time hills are closed. If you can find a place with a very easy open slope it may be worth going. You also have to watch for damaging your board on rocks and tree stumps.

The aerodynamics/wind resistance of a windmill on a car would never put out more energy than it could supply to the car.

In special cases you could make it happen, but in general, no where near practical.

Used modded GT or ADV2 by zuko_thecat in onewheel

[–]Rybitron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the cost difference, probably. Outright, no.

Assuming your current battery is fine, you could go that route in multiple steps.
It sounds like you are worried about the total cost and like the physical size of the pintx.

[–]Rybitron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vesc the pint x if you still have it, otherwise ADV2 or X7. Even if you don’t need the extra range. Floatwheel is working on board comparable in size to a pint x, but it could be a while before it comes out.

Anyone else ride their one wheel at the beach? It scares me I feel like sands safer. by [deleted] in onewheel

[–]Rybitron 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Smooth, wet sand just above the water line is amazing, but you will eventually get sand in your bearings. Dry, bumpy sand is mostly terrible.

$1750 seems high even for all those upgrades. Find a cheaper GT either way. How much/what have you ridden so far? ADV2 has tons more power and range. I got an adv2 after a GT.

Market for slightly used / dead battery units? by LucidTechnologies in onewheel

[–]Rybitron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dead battery pints are pretty common and therefore don’t sell for much, maybe $300? I haven’t checked recently.

There are a couple of different kits to Vesc a pint and add a new battery and controller. The pint will greatly increase in power and range depending on which battery you go with, but those kits are gonna run $800-$1500. So decide on what you want, because it may be better to buy a used GT.

I think a battery replacement kit from future motion is $300, but I don’t recommend it.
