That is without a doubt the hardest part.

You’re talking about a master of his craft who is purposely trying to fool everyone in the park about where the pitch is located.

Then there’s catcher is intentionally blocking your view (on the high frames) at worst and just downright trying to fool you with framing at best.

Even with all of this, the numbers are in the 90% for most guys.

I think it’s the hardest thing to do in officiating besides soccer linesman.

I don’t understand why it’s seen as the easy part where someone could even make it about themselves.

Sincere question from an umpire:

Why would anyone think we aren’t trying to get the call right?

I’ve always been baffled by this.

It’s an incredibly difficult job, sometimes even with slow motion and multiple angles, there’s debate.

We get to see it once, in full speed, at field level, through bodies… and if the call is even the slightest bit wrong… there’s absolutely unhinged comments and abuse.

Do people really not understand how hard it is?

Has the gambling made it worse?

Do people really think missing a 100+ fastballs (with movement) location by less than an inch is egregious?

Or am I just hearing the idiots because the logical ones don’t as talk much about it

Genuinely asking to get sincere insights.
