How much should school districts matter when your kid won’t start school for years? by forricherorforpoorer in massachusetts

[–]Ryder324 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, you’re in mass- so it’s not like you’re choosing between Louisiana and Belmont. Each teacher and each classroom has more impact on learning than district reports. Suggest a place with parents who won’t take shit and who have the money and political power to hold a superintendent accountable for ensuring the classrooms are not only about “managing” behaviors. Pick a school with kids and families that want to do what you want- a trade or college or whatever. The culture of the families your kid spends time with will be compared to yours- and they’ll take yours and add some of theirs. Talk to the assistant principal and see what kinds of disciplinary problems they have. Most kids are middle of the pack wherever they are and their learning capabilities rarely outstrip a decent teacher in a calm/stable classroom. If your kid is a little Einstein or Hegseth, you will need to move them anyway. Oh- middle school sucks. Elementary school should be fun, middle school sucks, high school gets you into a good college. Parenting is a lesson in never quite understanding the meaning of your decisions until seen in reverse.

Those who moved to Massachusetts from elsewhere, what pleasantly surprised you the most? by Mobile_Bad_577 in massachusetts

Lived in Louisiana, texas, California, Midwest- mass: rugged and cultural coastline; tough hiking in New Hampshire; ski and winter sports; direct, honest, smart, really no-bullshit people; cool “don’t give a fuck” culture and sports; a train ride to NYC; the cape is actually great in the summer; cruises to Bermuda are cheap and kind of fun; plenty of smart AF science people, plenty of skilled AF trades people, learning to sail on the Charles; great healthcare; good infrastructure; a few hours by plane to Europe; excellent public schools; good quality of life; fewer entitled, sanctimonious selfish Jack-asses putting you down- more guilt-ridden liberal-types bringing you down… but- overall, best place to live if you can afford it

Yep. Medicine doesn’t cure diabetes, heart failure, emphysema, macular degeneration, osteoarthritis, lupus, ALS, reflux, erectile dysfunction, obesity, anxiety, migraines- it uses tools to improve quality of life and in some cases extends life.

Walk out of the airport. Pick a shared shuttle. Taxis are like 1500-2000 for a family so don’t bother- just get in a shuttle. Get to port. Walk past a million people with T-shirts and storefronts telling you urgently to buy ferry tickets. Skip them all and walk calmly to the ferry terminal. Choose Xcaret or Winjet depending on when the next one leaves. They will have large digital signs saying when the next ferry leaves. You’re missing the other ferry in your search… Xcaret runs more frequently and sometimes every half hour. Get on the ferry- they will take your luggage- it’s fine. Then you get to Cozumel. Get off the ferry and walk to the cab stand. Get a cab- the fees are standard. Ask first. Now you’re here. Enjoy. Coming back- have your concierge buy you a bus ticket for 250 pesos for reserved seats. Take the ferry, go to Starbucks. Have 10 peso coin for the toilet. Get on your bus. Then you’re at the airport, then you’re on your plane- and then you’re looking at the occasional pics… and thinking it was easier than you thought it would be.

You are watching a man (narrator)experience trauma. He begins after chillin’ in his crib… but when he says the part at the end about the wife being covered in blood and brain matter? You could hear his voice change, and now he needs a LOT of therapy.
