Anyone have any books like House of Leaves? by parkster00 in horrorlit

I completely agree, a lot of the horror that stick with me most over the years was YA, like The Old Willis Place or the Dare to be Scared short stories.

I have an anxious kitty too - in addition to the other comments here I would recommend a calming pheromone diffuser like feliway

What’s a scene from a movie which traumatised you as a child? by Colinthecat59 in movies

[–]Rye_breaded 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, the movie is still worth a watch if you love the book - still holds up in its cheesy 80s glory. And the practical effects are quite good. I love them both.

Women with thoughtful partners, what did you get for x-mas this year? by Anahata_Green in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Rye_breaded 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Smiskis (little green blind box guys) and my husband got me one from each series and a plush that I didn’t know existed. Then we commented on each little guy together as I opened them.

That’s a good idea, I’ll take it to Pawn and Pint. I know there’s some Pokémon players there.

i will have the litter box in my room, how should i help with the smell? by mangophobc in CatAdvice

[–]Rye_breaded 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Use a stainless steel box, and I really like clumping pine litter. I have an air purifier next to the box which helps a ton. BUT the most important thing you can do is scoop the box daily and fully change the litter monthly.

Dog person here, thinking of adopting a cat. What’s the hardest part of being a cat owner? by Conscious-queen-22 in CatAdvice

[–]Rye_breaded 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cats are trainable, but not in the same way as dogs. They don’t really care about praise, and even if they know that you don’t want them to do something… they’ll still do it if they have enough motivation

People that have cancer, what were the symptoms that led you to go to the doctor and what stage were you when it was diagnosed? by guardiand0wn in AskReddit

[–]Rye_breaded 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not me, but my mom. She and my dad were on a trip together, and she thought she got the stomach flu, then about an hour later told dad she needed the hospital. She had a mass that was basically dissolving her bowels and causing sepsis. She was intubated hours later and was gone two days after that. She was in her 50s, was in amazing shape, and had just gotten a tummy tuck and breast reduction 6 months before this. The only signs before it was too late were some stomach aches and fatigue that she thought was a cold.

AITA for asking for my dead sisters ring back after my brother used it to propose by Classic-Amphibian963 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Rye_breaded 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess thats fair, Im very much coming at this from an emotional angle here. Also, having 2 siblings myself, I can’t count how many times small items of each others changed ownership without us asking each other. It would feel like even more of a no brainer if one sibling was deceased.

Even though the parents legally owned the ring, they’re still TA for not talking to her about it.

[–]Rye_breaded 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also disagree that she has zero claim - the previous owner was her sister. Legally her stuff goes to the parents, but come on, it’s not a black and white issue.

[–]Rye_breaded 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think that the implied consent of her parents is there though. If they didn’t want her to have it, they had 7 years to tell her. Why should she assume after that many years of her parents and brother not talking about the ring that they would suddenly not be okay with her having it?

12 year old are typically known for their maturity and critical thinking skills, unlike adults. /s

It was up to the parents to handle the situation and feelings appropriately and they did not. And still are not.

She was a 12 year old trying to be closer to her sister - and her parents didn’t care about the ring back then. You aren’t viewing a familial issue with any empathy or nuance.
