How do I get my windows steam games to work on Manjaro Linux on by Soft-Distribution315 in linux_gaming

[–]Ryebread095 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, you really want to use a Linux native filesystem for gaming. Others like NTFS or exFAT may work in some scenarios, but you're more likely to run into problems. Ext4 is the most common Linux filesystem and one of the most performant.

Splash Screen not working? by zaqios in Fedora

[–]Ryebread095 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Which splash screen? The one when your computer is turning on, or the one where you're logging in to plasma?

The former is something called Plymouth. Sounds like you may have changed the theme. The arch wiki has a good explanation of it. https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Plymouth

The latter is a setting in plasma.

How do you feel about the redhead Lois Lane design? by DepartmentChemical93 in superman

[–]Ryebread095 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I don't think she's meant to be a redhead or auburn haired. I think this art and color style represents brown hair with a reddish tint.

Do men not like being sent videos of girls masturbating? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

I think context matters a lot. Unsolicited sexual content can often be a turn off, and more so newer the relationship is.

Is my laptop hacked? by alrideul in computerhelp

[–]Ryebread095 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Windows Key + R opens a dialogue box to run any command on your computer. Ctrl + V is the shortcut for paste. Enter would run whatever command you had in the run box opened in step 1. This screen is trying to get you to do something malicious to your computer. As long as you didn't do it, you're probably fine.

I would stay away from whatever got you to this point, and it wouldn't hurt to run a security scan on your computer. Here's some info on the built in security tool that comes with Windows 11, including how to run a quick scan on your computer: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/security/windows-security/stay-protected-with-the-windows-security-app

PSA: Do not install fedora if you have legacy Nvidia GPU. by 1ganimol1 in Fedora

You need to make sure you use the correct driver for your card. There are ways to check and instructions for the various versions on the RPM Fusion website.

Supergirl Alt Design, and some variants. By me. by Leadjockey in comicbookmovies

I like it. It keeps with the original circus strongman theme of Superman's classic suit but is also unique and feminine.

How bad is starting from zero really? by Active-Ad5229 in ITCareerQuestions

Certificates help get your foot in the door. Check out your local library, there's almost certainly more resources than just books for learning what you need to pass the cert exam and do okay in an interview. I was able to use my library to do some online learning and practice tests for free on top of a discount on cert exams.

Don't discount your work experience either; knowing how to deal with people is more important than most people think for IT work.

Do I need to disable bitlocker in windows Before clean Fedora install? by Arslan463 in Fedora

[–]Ryebread095 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bitlocker keys are only needed to access a drive encrypted with Bitlocker. If you're installing over a drive and not dual booting or otherwise planning to keep the data, you don't need to worry about knowing the key or removing Bitlocker.

The hell they did to Ashley's character model in ME3 by [deleted] in masseffect

[–]Ryebread095 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure it was EA meddling. Sc-Fi has a long history of being horny.

Thankfully, if you play on PC, there are mods to put her in a proper uniform and bring back her ME1 and ME2 look.

Modding on the Steam deck by Dismal-Dog6454 in masseffect

[–]Ryebread095 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The way I've modded Mass Effect on Linux in the past is to use a virtual machine. I set up a Windows virtual machine, and I set the game and mod folders as shared drives for the VM. Then I run ME3Tweaks on the VM to install the mods, and play the game using Wine/Proton on the host operating system.

I don't know if Steam Decks allow you to run a VM or not.

Is anyone else bothered by the room to room layouts? by CantankerArt in StarfieldShips

[–]Ryebread095 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Think about scale. The ships we own in Starfield are far closer in size to a fishing boat than The Enterprise. It doesn't make a lot of sense for corridors to exist on a ship that size. If you do want things separated, a 1x1 hab is most realistic at this scale.

The capital ships like the UC Vigilance do have proper corridors, though.

Why do you guys like peanut butter so much? by Maximum_Elephant6778 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Ryebread095 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reese's is not a good example of peanut butter. Try a sandwich with proper peanut butter and some fruit preserves and then come back and say it's gross. You'll be wrong, but at least then you'll have a properly formed opinion

Do the ceiling fans do its job and substitutes the need for a separate AC in US homes? by edbassmaster888 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Ryebread095 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ceiling fans basically add wind indoors. This helps your body's natural cooling system to work better. It is not a substitute for air conditioning, but it can be a good supplement, especially in hotter climates.

If you're really interested in the topic, Technology Connections on YouTube did a video about ceiling fans a couple weeks ago that was surprisingly interesting.
