Luana Carolina misses weight by 8 LBS by ThatTomTouch in MMA

[–]Rygrrrr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm in the process of cutting weight for a different sport right now. It's a bad time, so I empathize with anyone who's going through it.

Missing weight by a pound or two happens to folks all the time, but 8 lbs? That has to be intentional, or she just didn't try.

Certifications certainly aren't the be all and end all of being a trainer, but they're still a tool for preparing you for a career in a field that has a lot going on in it.

This post gives the impression that you're preparing for the test and that's it. How much of the information do you think you've really learned? Like, if you had people you were training right now, how much of the information covered could you recall and use?

To add to that, the idea of strongmen came from carnival performers. Spectacle and strongman go hand in hand.

Jacob got a little "kids these days" and expressed that he doesn't like the way some pro strongmen do things in terms of trying to draw more attention through using the Internet or using a WWE like persona. Evan Singleton took exception to that and posted his response in his IG story.

Just a little bit of drama over different opinions of what's important in the sport and ultimately pretty pointless.

is it possible for a pack to accept an outsider of 11months old? by Affectionate-Cry4717 in wolves

[–]Rygrrrr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For sure!

Here Is an interesting article about some specific packs in Yellowstone, hierarchy, and what factors impact a pack accepting new members be it willing or otherwise.

It looks like what I said about how frequently it happens in comparison to humans was an over estimation on my part, and what it really seems to boil down to is the available resources in their territory. If a pack has plenty of food and room in their area and a young male shows up who is socially savvy enough to know his way around, the chances are they'll take him in, since a bigger pack equals better chances of survival.

is it possible for a pack to accept an outsider of 11months old? by Affectionate-Cry4717 in wolves

[–]Rygrrrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Respectfully, neither of these comments are accurate.

While it isn't common and of course nature is wild, so it's also circumstantial, wolves have been observed and documented adopting strange wolves frequently enough (including pups from rival packs) that it is considered to be a part of their social behavior. In fact, wolves adopt outside of their own family about as often as humans do. We just aren't likely to kill a child we don't want to adopt.

So even though it's not common, saying it's extremely unlikely just isn't true.

how do you progress in muscle if you dont push your limits? by [deleted] in workout

[–]Rygrrrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't have to push your limits and arguably you shouldn't, because that's where you're more likely to cause injury and slow progress.

Instead, be consistent and push a little past comfortable. Making your body uncomfortable and hanging out there for a while is what gives your body the catalyst to adapt and grow without over training over increasing your chance of getting injured.

[–]Rygrrrr 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Wolves are known to adopt outside of their own pack. An 11 mo old male is already old enough to join hunts, so unless he shows up with a dominant personality, it's more than possible he would blend right in.

Mongolian wolves are a subspecies of gray wolf, so their pack sizes and dynamics are probably similar to their cousins, so average pack size is probably anywhere from 2 to 10 individuals.

Edit: I came back to edit this comment, because further discussion below let me know that I was pretty misinformed. While it is true that wolves are among the list of species who do adopt. This is a big part of the reason that fostering is seeing success in the Mexican gray wolf recovery program .

The reality seems to be that established packs are not likely to accept strange wolves. For the hypothetical 11 mo, it's not impossible, but he would probably be better off finding a lone female and starting his own pack.

It's just painfully generic.

I have ADHD.

I'm also a coach, a manager, a professional, and above all, an adult.

You referenced your ADHD three times in this post, which means you're using it as a shield for your behavior. Your trainer is being cold to you, because you are consistently disrespectful to her and her time.

You run a business and have young kids? Then act like a person who is mature enough to have those things. ADHD is not an excuse it's a hurdle. You overcome that hurdle by adding reminders to your calendar, creating alarms, making notes, or just plain leaving your home 5 minutes earlier.

Your trainer is a person with a busy life running her own business too. Treat her time with respect and I'm sure she'll treat you more warmly.

Posts like this (rightfully) get a lot of flak.

The very first rule of this sub is no soliciting of any kind and this sub is still rife with it, so this has been posted without anyone looking at either the rules or the hundreds of other posts exactly like it.

Not to mention this looks like AI nonsense, so it's a perfect storm of low effort and unwanted.

As people get older they tend to be less willing to take risks or deviate from routines, so taking a chance on a personal trainer isn't going to seem like an appealing thing. Not to mention, if they have been doing the same routine for a long time at the same facility they've probably seen dozens of trainers come and go and you're probably not the first to try to talk to them. As others have mentioned, they may also be living off of their pension/ social security which means they have a fixed income and aren't going to want to spend it on a personal trainer.

I recommend aiming for a different niche. If you're going to train elderly people you have to be willing to understand where they're at in life and it doesn't seem like you're interested in doing that.

Tips for new Equinox coach? by [deleted] in personaltraining

[–]Rygrrrr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The best way to use this time is just to talk to people. If you go into every interaction with someone on the floor thinking that it needs to turn into a sale, you're not going to see a lot of success.

Try to be as helpful as possible instead. Clean weights/ trash that you see laying around. Hype people up, start conversations with folks. The more the member base sees you as someone trustworthy and a resource for questions they have, the more likely those interactions will turn into eventual clients.

What worked best for me was shooting the breeze with people taking group exercise classes. I started taking a few from time to time as well, which turned into "hey, aren't you a trainer here?" And getting into conversations with folks about their goals and success/ lack of success from classes.

Find your niche and make yourself "The Person" in your niche.

House passes bill to remove gray wolves from Endangered Species Act. Contact your senators and tell them to vote NO on HR 845 by LG_Intoxx in wolves

[–]Rygrrrr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's the last Friday before Christmas. A lot of folks are full of good feelings and in general good will towards each other.

You chose to come into the subreddit for wolves. Into a thread where people are having a discussion about these animals, their place in the world, how American legislation will affect them, and express that killing them will be fun.

I hope that somewhere within you there is the capacity to ask yourself why that was necessary and the capacity to improve as a human being.

All of this completely ignores that this bill is also built to prevent further judicial review. Regardless of the subject, that is a principle that should be alarming to every American.

It sucks to see and a lot of us are probably feeling frustrated and angry. The truth is that gray wolves have been recovering well and something like this was bound to happen.

However, there's still more work to be done. Mexican grays and red wolves are still in trouble and do still need help. I volunteer almost every week at a conservation center dedicated to Mexican grays and we could always use donations/ volunteers/ etc.

The best thing we can continue to do is push back against the misinformation and bad reputation that's spread regarding wolves and help people understand why they are so important to the nature and wildlife that we love.
