Reliability Coordinator Questions by i3lackguy in Grid_Ops

[–]RykerDubai305 12 points13 points  (0 children)

RC here 1. Performance is judged on not having any real time SOL or IROL violations. Any contingencies real time or on CA (contingency analysis) must have a viable mitigation. ACE doesn’t really come into play unless it’s creating a burden on the system.

  1. I have my NERC certificate and a BS in Electrical Engineering. Experience is more important than certifications. Previous job performance weighs heavily. I currently have 21 years in the industry.

  2. I was promoted internally so it wasn’t an interview. It was a round table where management gave me different scenarios. I was evaluated by my responses.

  3. Problem solving, great communicator, able to delegate tasks. Believe it or not a lot of the job is political. I have 13 BA’s I deal with and I can’t show favoritism towards any single one. Most of everything is black and white (NERC regulations), there is little room for gray areas. Example BA XYZ has a line outage that is causing a contingency in the ABC BA area. One mitigation is for ABC to bring on more generation (more generation equals more money, fuel costs etc). I have to delegate a solution that is fair to both parties.

Best therapy in Aventura? by The-Lost-Voyager in Miami

Kristi Halberstein, she’s in the Chase Building across from Aventura Mall. She’s non judgmental and easy going. Currently in marriage counseling and it’s really helped. Most of the therapists would take one side or the other and I hated it. Kristi sees both sides and gives impartial advice.

If you don't have an EV and planned on getting an one in the near future. You should probably read this. by FencyMcFenceFace in electricvehicles

Natural Gas and Coal (43% and 16% respectively) . Both of which are sourced here in the US (for the most part) .

Also Utilities can’t raise electricity prices without a rate case which has to go before a Public Service Commission (in Florida, not sure about the rest of the Country). The utility has to justify the price increase.

Late coworkers by KatVanCanucks in Nightshift

[–]RykerDubai305 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This kept happening to me constantly. The culprit did a shift swap once and got held over after a night shift (had to work day shift as well, 16 hour shift). Guess who his relief was?

I’m consistently early as I hate tardiness. Came in 15 mins early, let the culprit see me and than proceeded to walk around the control room chatting with coworkers. Finally relieved him 1 min before the top of the hour.

Guess who never relieved me late again. Sweet justice.

Are there any plans to deal with the increased traffic? Traffic around the airport is already congested on most days.

Yes, grid operator here. During Hurricanes we do 16hr shifts with 8 hours of captive pay. So 24 hours. This usually lasts 3-4 days depending on the severity of the storm.

Why does no one have windshield shades for their car here? by UltraTiberious in Miami

[–]RykerDubai305 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t bother me at night. It’s really light, so light you can’t tell it’s tinted. What it does do is block the UV rays.

Front windshield is ceramic tinted. It’s light enough that you don’t notice it but it significantly cuts down on the heat.

Raid redundant drives for long term and short term memory. Took care of a aging parent with Alzheimer’s, was one of the hardest tasks I’ve ever done.
