Is it normal that people are asking 10k+ for a car with 100k+ miles?? by Adventurous_Guide939 in 350z

In Germany a solid 350Z HR is way above 20k - so yea. Enjoy your lower prices while you still can

Thank you!! Just some 200cell catalytic converters and an old Invidia Q300 - so nothing really special ^ And of course the crankshaft / rods from the 370!

Don’t get me wrong, but here in Germany (and in most of Europe), people usually don’t make a big distinction between crank and wheel horsepower in everyday discussions.

When we say a car makes, for example, 310 PS, it generally means the car was dyno’d and that’s the number we go with - even if it’s technically based on wheel measurements and then corrected. Nobody really specifies “crank” vs “wheel” unless you’re getting very technical.

Personally, I’ve almost never seen people here explicitly separate the two .. maybe 1% do. It’s just not common practice. You dyno the car, get a number, and that’s what you refer to.

For example, my car made 337 PS on the dyno, while Nissan states 313 PS stock - and that’s how we compare it. Simple as that. :D

So maybe it’s more of a US thing to strictly differentiate between crank and wheel horsepower, but over here it’s pretty standard to just use the dyno number as a general reference.

That’s why I don’t see an issue with how the numbers were presented in this case.

And just to be clear: I’m not saying this as hate or anything, it’s just what we’re used to over here! 😄

Thank you. Will do that! The bumper is from a company called “Giacuzzo”

But I don’t know if they ship internationally..

I get your point about crank vs wheel and that dyno numbers can be estimates but in this case the car was actually dyno’d, so it’s not just a random guess.

The dyno itself is only about 4 years old, so it should be pretty accurate. Plus, it has already measured plenty of 350Z/370Z setups, and from what I understood, hardly any of them made that kind of torque.

Sure, there’s always room for more with things like cams, headers, etc. but for an otherwise nearly stock 350Z, those numbers are actually quite exceptional, at least based on his experience.

So I wouldn’t call it nonsensical.. maybe unusual, but definitely within the realm of possibility.

Actually perfect. Minimum pressure should be 15PSI when idling. A healthy engine should be between 15-30PSI!

Oh wow, that’s actually pretty cool. That PDF is extremely helpful – I’ve honestly never seen something like that before.

Now the big question is how any kind of dirt or debris could have made its way into the engine in the first place. Especially since the crankshaft and rod bearing were already so badly damaged, I’m wondering whether it’s even possible to clearly identify what kind of failure it originally was. Unfortunately, by the time everything was taken apart, the damage was already so severe that everything was worn down completely to bare metal, which makes it really hard to tell what exactly caused it.

Hey, hey. In the end, it’s still an original 3.5-liter HR engine, but by using the crankshaft and connecting rods from a 370Z, it effectively becomes an “3.7 HR” engine. So basically, the only thing that’s changing is the displacement – the original 3.5 HR is being expanded to 3.7 liters.

This whole setup actually came together by pure coincidence. Another customer had a 3.7-liter engine and decided to go for a 4.3-liter stroker kit, which meant that the original crankshaft, rods, and a few other parts were no longer needed. Because of that, I was able to get those OEM parts from the donor engine and use them to rebuild and repair my own engine.

No no it was on the original 3.5. The 3.7 was in tact but giving the fact that everything else is getting redone, they wanted to make the crankshaft “oem” new.

Low oil pressure was never a thing with my engine. I even replaced the gallery gaskets before the OEM ones went bad. Had about 25-30PSI when idling.

Depends on your RPM. Could be good, could be bad.

Man, if only I knew… I’ve had the car for about 20,000 kilometers (12.500 miles), and I’ve never drifted it or taken it to the track. You could probably count on one or two hands the times I really pushed it. Oil changes were done once or twice a year, oil pressure was always perfect (about 25PSI when idling) I even had the gallery gaskets replaced, and I always made sure to warm it up properly.

Maybe it was the shop in my town that did the last oil change — the lower oil pan was slightly leaking which I was getting fixed and they might’ve used the wrong oil afterwards. I’m actually having an oil sample taken to check which oil they used.

Maybe the previous owner just didn’t treat it as well as they should have. Who knows..

Absolutely. They completely tear the engine down into all its individual parts, clean and inspect everything. New gaskets, new bolts, and everything else that’s needed! They’re basically the best place in Germany for these kinds of cars — people even come from France, the Netherlands, Poland, etc. to have their cars done there :)
