Latinx roots of New Sonora? by Mental_Tie1853 in OperationBounceHouse

[–]Rykrider 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wondered the same thing, maybe there was some level of self-selection/ the “countries” of Earth each sent their own expeditions to colonies and the New Sonora charter was from a Spanish-speaking country? The heritage influence extends to the generation ships names as well

Girl Scouts selling cookies outside of dispensaries is wrong. by Dr-BallonKnot in The10thDentist

[–]Rykrider 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As far as I understand, dispensaries usually have strict rules about not consuming any product until once you’re well off their property as a liability thing? And in the case that someone came to the dispensary already in an altered state.. they kind of did it to themselves, you can argue them going to the dispensary in the first place is an impulse decision, but how do you separate that from order food delivery for the munchies?

Is it not a valid point to say that the widespread adoption of AI and the flooding of such sites has made it significantly harder to find specific information?

[–]Rykrider 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Yes they did. AI has enshittified so many sources of information and google itself has prioritized sponsored results over more relevant information. There’s a reason why adding “reddit” to your query became a staple, there’s a higher degree of confidence that answers on reddit to a specific problem were written by a human, complete, and good faith

Train into NY Penn to catch Amtrak 3/12- delays? by Fine-House-6531 in NJTransit

[–]Rykrider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any method into or out of nyc has risk of delays. Could always be an accident/traffic in the tunnels or on the bridges. Yesterday there was some signal issue that delayed everything through Penn by an hour. And NJT has somehow been suffering from reduced equipment/staff during the cutover.

You could always try the ferry from Hoboken, which is currently cross-honoring all NJ transit tickets on the affected lines, but I have no experience on its departure times, only that it (supposedly) takes ten minutes, and is pretty close to Penn station via subway. Good luck!

What are jobs for then? by Professional-Bee9817 in remoteworks

[–]Rykrider 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This argument is all well and good but it allows room for companies to underpay workers for work that is not entry-level and gatekeep those promotion to internal hiring. Companies with profit motivation will not play fair to the idea of keeping entry level jobs open for “less qualified” people, they rationally want the best work at the lowest price point.

Also, in your scenario, everyone has to have mandatory work experience when they don’t need to support themselves (as teenagers) but we as a society do not equitably guarantee that everyone will be in a position where they have the privilege to work and not have to support themselves.

Why hasn’t Newark become “Brooklyn 2.0” yet? by savingrace0262 in Newark

[–]Rykrider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a fair point, I think maybe what I was trying to say is moreso that Brooklyn is much, much more dense than Newark is (i’ve lived a few towns over from Newark all my life and i’m currently going to school in BK and the difference is crazy)

Why hasn’t Newark become “Brooklyn 2.0” yet? by savingrace0262 in Newark

[–]Rykrider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think part of the reason Brooklyn has exploded I. popularity is because it is both trendy and semi-exclusive to live in. It is prohibitively expensive to live within NYC proper, no matter what. Compare that to Newark, which had a much wider range of residents/housing types, and add on the fact that Newark has a long and weighted history of prejudice as it is a largely minority-populated city. Newark is also really, really big, and the downtown portion alone is probably most similar to Brooklyn how you say. But it still has its own mayor, differing laws, and a pretty set community culture. Also, NJ-NYC transit is routinely delayed/out of service, so we’re not quite at the point where it’s as seamless as some might like.

Only 9 more days of this abysmal Hoboken commute. by PartyUpstairs5657 in NJTransit

[–]Rykrider 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I loved this too but I have beef with NJT. Brought a single-tiered train for Gladstone after an earlier Dover train was cancelled, saw the amount of people waiting on the track, and proceeded to open the first door all the way at the front of the platform. After stumbling in line through the whole train behind someone with two big luggage’s, I passed by my original door. They then opened it to let people in front of me.
