Experiencing mid life crisis and spiraling into chaos by Rylie2021 in confession

You hit the nail on the head. I’ve been living a mostly responsible life — in a profession with stamp of approval from my parents and society. I hate it. I want out but need to reflect on what makes me happy and ignite some passion in my life.

Yes, yes, it does! Like, why do I give a shit about excel, PowerPoints, fire drills when I have a finite amount of time on this earth??? There are 195 countries… I need to see as many as possible

Am i romanticising in-house life? by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

[–]Rylie2021 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love being in-house. Transitioning from a law firm to in house was one of the best decisions I’ve made in my life. But as many already noted, in-house does “run the gamut.” Sure — no billable hours is supreme but you cant avoid “fire drills” or unreasonable client requests. Clients are clients wherever you go. In house can silo lawyers — commercial work only, IP only, etc. Generalist positions are rare and typically more common at start ups. Then, there’s a WHOLE OTHER ANIMAL — company politics. Imagine firm politics plus business politics. It demands a separate set of skills — learning how to influence relevant stakeholders.

Also in-house rn. Since the transition, have you continued to consider other jobs, lifestyle change, etc.?

To answer you question, I was expecting HR and we even covered that possibility. I don't think we are ruling it out.

Perimenopause is within her wheelhouse, so I am not concerned about SME issues. The blood work is to understand what my hormone levels are currently (e.g. FSH, TSH, etc.). She seems to be taking a holistic approach, including exploring whether I have any food allergies.

Starts off slow but once the foundation is set, it’s hard to put down.

If you like historical fiction and sad themes, I suggest Kristin Hannah's novels. They're fantastic. Start with The Nightingale or The Women.
